Whew! Finally someone's written the proper text: Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. . .and a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2024, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great, (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country or is the only “AMERICA” in the western hemisphere), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, or choice of computer platform of the wishee. In other words, HAPPY HOLIDAYS! The fine print/disclaimer: By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom, Resilience, and Joy Three Interesting Facts About Juneteenth 1. The Name Juneteenth: The name "Juneteenth" is a blend of the words "June" and "nineteenth," reflecting the day the announcement was made in Texas. It's also known as "Freedom Day" or "Jubilee Day," underscoring the joy and celebration associated with the event. 2. A Culinary Tradition: Food plays a central role in Juneteenth celebrations. Traditional foods include red-colored items like red velvet cake, strawberry soda, and watermelon. The color red symbolizes resilience and the bloodshed of enslaved ancestors. Barbecues and communal meals are also a big part of the festivities, bringing people together to share in the joy and fellowship. 3. Official Recognition: While Juneteenth has been celebrated informally for decades, it wasn't until 1980 that Texas became the first state to make it an official holiday. Over the years, more states followed suit, and in June 2021, President Joe Biden signed a bill making Juneteenth a federal holiday, cementing its significance in American history. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #7x24NewEngland

Every year on the fifth of May, Americans come together to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, a holiday often misunderstood as Mexican Independence Day. Contrary to popular belief, Mexico celebrates its independence on September 16th, and Cinco de Mayo isn't a national holiday there. So, what exactly is Cinco de Mayo, and why is it so widely celebrated in the U.S.? Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico's victory in the 1862 Battle of Puebla during the war with France. It's named after the date, which translates to the "fifth of May" in English. In 1861, Mexico's new president, Benito Juárez, faced a financial crisis and had to default on debt payments to Europe. This led to military forces from France, Britain, and Spain being sent to demand payment. While Britain and Spain negotiated and withdrew their forces, France, under Napoleon III, saw an opportunity to establish an empire in Mexico. They invaded Veracruz and pushed Juárez's forces to retreat, leading to a showdown in Puebla. Despite being outnumbered, Mexican forces achieved an unexpected victory on May 5, 1862. Although the Battle of Puebla wasn't a decisive win in the war, it symbolized resilience and became a significant event for the Mexican government. French forces didn't leave until 1867, marking a period of resistance and eventual triumph for Mexico. In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is primarily celebrated in Puebla with military reenactments. It's not a national holiday, so businesses remain open, and daily life continues as usual. However, regions like the Peñon de los Baños neighborhood in Mexico City also mark the occasion. In the U.S., Cinco de Mayo gained popularity in the 1960s, championed by activists who admired the indigenous Mexican victory over European invaders. Today, it's embraced as a day to honor Mexican culture with parades, parties, and traditional foods and drinks. While festivities are widespread, they're especially vibrant in areas with significant Mexican-American communities. Despite the festive atmosphere, it's essential to remember Cinco de Mayo's historical significance and appreciate the rich heritage of our neighbors. So, as you celebrate, take a moment to reflect on the day's history and the cultural depth it represents beyond just margaritas and colorful attire.
