As most Americans, I just watched the inaugural speech and analyzed it through the lens of an international relations analyst and consultant. What President Trump laid out was a blueprint for how the U.S. will engage with the world in the years ahead. Here’s what global leaders, businesses, and investors should brace for: 🔹 A Stronger Push for Economic Nationalism “America First” doctrine is back with full force. Mr. Trump reaffirmed plans to impose hefty tariffs on imports. For businesses, this could mean major supply chain disruptions, a rise in domestic production incentives, and shifts in trade partnerships. Expect volatility, but also new openings for regional economic realignments. 🔹 Global Expansion? In an unexpected moment, Trump hinted at reviving talks about U.S. territorial expansion. While this may sound far-fetched, it underscores a boulder foreign policy stance that could shake up diplomatic relations. 🔹 Refocusing on the Americas Mr. Trump appears more focused on the Western Hemisphere than before. Latin America is likely to see increased U.S. engagement, particularly on trade and security matters. This shift could bring opportunities for businesses operating in the region but also new geopolitical complexities. 🔹 A New Global Power Alignment Notably, several influential political figures from Europe and the Americas attended the inauguration, signaling potential shifts in global alliances. The foreseeable political, economic and financial impact on the EU of the changes in the US deserve I think a small “political” thought on LinkedIn: In my view, this is the last wake-up call ⏰and it would be time for the EU to now also take the measures for becoming itself much stronger (also militarily!) and ultra-competitive from an economic and financial standpoint 🚀 In a now multipolar world in which the interests of the West seem to be clearly divided for at least four years between the interests of the USA 🇺🇸and of the EU 🇪🇺 and in which all major leaders see “their country first”, it would be naive to rely on anyone else than yourselves. If we do not become stronger and more competitive, we take the risk of ending up splitted again into European separate nations without any real military and economic relevance that would, in this new world, become the mere plaything of one of these bigger and stronger players.

Fascinating to see the stark contrast between the two at last night’s debate. Your thoughts? Read a lot on both sides about how ‘unfair’ the moderators were: On one side: ‘Why call him Mr. President? Why allow him 5 minutes extra talking time?’ On the other side: ‘It was 3 against 1. I believe in the vision of an America that values people for their commitment, hard work, and dreams, regardless of where they come from. For many of us around the world, the United States represents a place of opportunity, where we can build skills, gain experience, and contribute meaningfully. But with new immigration policies in focus, I can’t help but feel a bit anxious for those of us who dream of coming back to the U.S. legally to work temporarily. For so many international workers, the goal isn’t just to visit the U.S., but to be a part of something bigger: to contribute our unique strengths, share in America’s vibrant economy, and then return to our homelands with newfound skills and knowledge which we can share to others. It’s an enriching exchange that benefits everyone, creating a global network of skilled, grateful professionals who carry a bit of America with them wherever they go. My hope is that America will continue to recognize the value of those who come with purpose, gratitude, and a commitment to respect the process. I believe a truly great nation is one that embraces and supports those who come to contribute and learn, not just for themselves, but for the communities they will return to.
