More Trump will also threaten the #security and #defence of #Europe as he has vowed to pull out of #NATO and halt #US #militarysupport for #Ukraine. Democratic governments in Europe, which value #freedom, #tolerance and the #ruleoflaw, are scrambling to create a bulwark against the fast-approaching far-right tide with which Trump will align himself. His statements about throwing NATO members (that do not achieve the mandated 2% GDP of #defencespending) to #Putin to do with as he wishes are horrifying. Both Trump and Putin adhere to the #sphereofinfluence #ideology that undermines the #sovereign #independence and freedom of countries that surround #greatpowers. Where does this leave #NewZealand? Do we want to become a #satellite of the U.S. in #greatpowercompetition between the U.S. and #China? Do we want to become a tributary state of China? We verge on one presently. NZers must reflect on the #WWII #legacy our parents and grandparents entrusted to us. We must align our economic, foreign affairs and defence #policies with our rhetoric of independence and freedom.
