I agree with this blog post by Steph Ango so much, I suggest you take the time to read it: https://lnkd.in/ehb-M-Pg I'll excerpt his three main points because they are our three main points as well: 1. We want to stay small, we don’t need to hire lots of people 2. We follow strict principles that we do not want to compromise 3. Our users are happy to support us, we don’t need VC money I've been asked multiple times about our exit plan, and the answer remains the same: we don't have one. We are not building this in anticipation of going public or being acquired, and as such we will never put specific financial indicators above our customers or our team. We are not anti-commercial email, far from it, we believe that the best thing for our target market of large senders is an Open-Source license, without VC backing. ESPs have been raked over the coals and abandoned multiple times over the years, and it happens because VCs demand a larger TAM so they can get a larger ROI, on the backs of on-prem users who can't stop paying without their fundamental infrastructure shutting off. We also get asked if we will ever "Pull a HashiCorp" and change licensing, go open-core, or one day delete the public repo and declare that Open-Source doesn't work and go private. This also won't happen, because again it's VC money and influence that causes these things to happen. We have no intention to ever sell the company because it's hard to name a single company acquisition that was better for the users after the acquisition (or even for the team who got the company to that point). While we can't peer into the future, we agree internally that we want to ensure the longevity of the KumoMTA project, even beyond the life of the KumoMTA company.
