The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 - published on 9 October - will be the most diverse, most representative and the biggest ever. A total of 2,092 universities will be ranked from an unprecedented 115 countries (with hundreds more achieving "reporter" status) in the 21st annual edition of the rankings - and we are delighted that for the first time ever we will welcome universities from Bahrain, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mongolia, Paraguay, Rwanda, Syria, and Uzbekistan into the gold-standard global benchmarking system. Uzbekistan stands out with THREE debuting universities. The number of ranked universities increased 9.7 per cent this year, marking the largest rise in the past five years, compared to a 6.0 per cent growth last year, as more universities and more nations - backed by their governments - embrace the importance of the international higher education and research community, and the power of sharing data for strategic performance analysis and benchmarking. Turkey and India have seen the most significant increases in the number of universities added to the rankings compared to last year, with 16 new universities each. India's ranked universities increased from 91 in 2024 to 107, while Turkey's increased from 75 to 91. The rankings go live on https://lnkd.in/eW2hsgM at 00.01 on 9 October. They will be launched exclusively at the World Academic Summit. Join here: https://lnkd.in/e794EFjj #THEWAS #THEunirankings #unirankings

Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings will be bigger, more inclusive, more diverse, more comprehensive and more insightful than ever before. I'm delighted to confirm that a record 2,858 institutions from an unprecedented 133 countries/regions submitted data for assessment and analysis for this year's world rankings - a 7 per cent increase compared with last year. THE's rankings are unique in that they are collaborative and entirely voluntary, and require a significant commitment from universities to submit and sign off institutional data. So it is wonderful to see a growing global community of internationally-focused research universities join a global movement for transparent, globally comparable, quality assured data benchmarks, developed into gold-standard international performance benchmarks. This comes despite some frankly bizarre and ill-informed outside commentary about global rankings. Participation from Africa has overtaken that from North America for the first time; 285 African institutions submitted data, a 20 per cent rise since last year and the biggest increase of any continent (see map below). Universities in Comoros, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Burkina Faso all took part for the first time, providing vial new performance bencharmarks. Asia is still the most-represented continent, with 1,209 submissions (an 8 per cent increase). The top represented country is the US, with 182 participating institutions, followed by the UK (162), Japan (144) and India (133). Turkey has also surpassed the 100-mark for the first time, with 111 universities taking part. Read rankings editor Ellie Bothwell's analysis of the submission numbers here: https://lnkd.in/egwY_cvS Save the date - 9 October 2024 - for the launch of the 2025 edition of the World University Rankings, and join us at the World Academic Summit at the The University of Manchester: https://lnkd.in/e794EFjj Read here how Times Higher Education's commitment to responsible rankings has built trust across the world: https://lnkd.in/eUWu7k8i Explore these ten ways that THE has improved the rigour and transparency of the global rankings: https://lnkd.in/eEYpahBC Thank you for such inspiring engagement! #THEUniRankings #THEWAS #unirankings #THEglobalimpact #morethanourrank #universityrankings
