A very common question raised by most students is: - Which job role will suit me? - How can I ease the journey of finding a suitable job profile? - What do I need to do for these job profiles? I once visited Banasthali Vidyapith, Jaipur, and had a very healthy discussion with students related to the career opportunities available in various career paths, such as for BBA and engineering students. I must say that there are ample opportunities irrespective of any field or background, as long as you figure out which job profile suits you the best. Now, in both the tech and non-tech worlds, there's a kind of pecking order, with various companies catering to different customer needs. Two terms that pop up in these conversations are "Product Company" and "Service Company. So, a Product Company is all about creating and selling physical or digital products, things you can touch, or software that solves specific problems. Think of giants like Amazon, HP, Microsoft, Facebook, and Adobe. On the flip side, a Service Company, also known as a service-oriented business, provides intangible products. They offer services, expertise, or advice rather than physical goods. For instance, you've got companies like JP Morgan, Uber, and Hilton Worldwide. Retail hiring is a big problem in India! For those of you don't know, my father & my uncle own a couple of retail franchise outlets across Ahmedabad & Surat, but they are facing one problem since day 1, Hiring & Re-hiring of talented folks that are having experience in retail industry specifically a clothing brand. Several reasons: 1. Discoverability of these folks as they are not on LinkedIn as opposed to usual hiring in tech enabled companies, nor on any job listing platform due to not enough literacy. 2. Since franchise outlets have very limited margins, salaries offered by these owners to staff is relatively less, typically ranges from 10K to 12K for Fresher, 13K to 17K for mid-senior & 18K+ for senior, plus incentives ranging from 0.5% to 5% depending on targets. 3. Poaching is a big problem too, stores typically tend to hire and poach folks from store next door. 4. Since the salary is less ideally these folks stay in around 5 to 7 KM radius from the store location which further narrows down the target audience. We have been trying to hire a Store Manager & a Salesman since 4 months now but have had not much luck.  Even Apna hasn’t cracked the code.
