⚖️Balancing act: Maximising engagement without minimizing serious conditions
We were impressed by the latest OPZELURA® (ruxolitinib) HCP TV spot from Incyte, which pokes fun at pharmaceutical advertising by injecting a refreshing dose of self-awareness and humour.
It made us realise how perfectly the team behind it struck the right balance between the fun, satirical tone without trivializing the condition.

🖌 …when designing creative moderation techniques to unlock and articulate emotion. Personification and gamification are just some of the ways we like to engage people, but one size does not fit all. We always consider whether an exercise is appropriate for the condition itself and for the individual in front of us. Arming ourselves with a range of engaging techniques gives us flexibility to adapt.
🗣 …when thinking about the research environment we create. We are endlessly grateful for how generously people share their experiences with us, especially more vulnerable moments. Pre-tasking or sharing interview topics ahead of time provides space for participants to reflect, so they don't feel 'put on the spot'. Light-hearted conversation-starters and ice-breakers not only build rapport, but provide a more comprehensive picture of their character and life outside of their condition.
📺 …when testing advertising concepts. The most impactful adverts we come across are unconventional, smart and interesting. We always advocate for testing ‘out of the box’ concepts; through smart probing and diligent analysis, we identify any threat of trivialisation, and how to mitigate that.
