From my early days as a business analyst to my current role as a manager, I've seen AI evolve from a mere tool to a dynamic actor reshaping our work landscape. In a recent article by Jeremy Heimans and Henry Timms in Harvard Business Review, they explore the rise of autosapient AI systems—entities capable of autonomous action and complex decision-making. It's fascinating to see how these systems, once confined to the realm of science fiction, are now becoming our coworkers, competitors, and even bosses. Drawing from my experience, I can attest to the profound impact AI has had on our work processes. From streamlining operations to enhancing decision-making, AI has become an indispensable ally in our quest for efficiency and innovation. However, with great power comes great responsibility. Heimans and Timms highlight the importance of understanding the characteristics of autosapient systems—agentic, adaptive, amiable, and arcane.
