Just watched this incredible Ted talk from Danny Meyer, and shared some of the lessons with my team at Chick-fil-A Millsboro. He reminds us that the original restaurant came from the word "ristore," which means to restore. This is why people come to eat with us. So how do we help them feel restored? He gives four simple ways: 1. Eye contact: people want to be seen. 2. Smiles: people want to know you're happy to see them. 3. Hugs: people want to know the provision of pleasure is mutual 4. Food (GREAT Food): people want to be fed from the moment they're born My charge to the team: let's help provide that restoration every human being needs when they walk through our doors. https://lnkd.in/eQJ9d-97

Making lemonade from lemons creates resilience, sweetened with imagination to see a unique perspective. Hosting a large event this week, at an offsite facility, I experienced lemons aplenty. A proverbial lemon tree was in full bloom. Fortunately, my teammates and I rolled up our sleeves and crafted some lemonade. A protocol officer, discussing what could go wrong in the prep session, offered words of wisdom: “No matter how much you prepare, things will not go as planned. It is how you deal with those unexpected things that will determine the success of the event.” Words of a Master Lemonade Maker! What makes an ideal lemonade recipe? Start with these ingredients: 1. One scoop of Practicality It is great to dream of the perfect event, no matter what type of affair you are planning, but the reality is that life tends to throw curve balls. In our case, a prominent dignitary could not travel to the location. Remaining practical kept the essential elements in perspective. We had a mission to focus on a message, not the missing pieces, and staying practical in our objective was essential for our lemonade outcome. 2. Two tablespoons of Teamwork Leaning on the team reduces overall stress, empowers everyone involved, and increases connectedness, especially when it is raining lemons. When my team showed up at the conference center, the facility was dark. Although cameras were “going live” in 30 minutes, the stage was not set up. The staff was erroneously informed the event was canceled because the dignitary was not attending. We knew we had to jump into action, and each person did. We scrambled to set up the stage, acquire microphones, and finish just as the cameras were ready to roll. Teamwork was our magic ingredient. 3. Garnish with Celebration There is much to enjoy from making lemonade. We fist-bumped at the end and knew we had a lemonade story to share for future events. The protocol officer was correct (as they usually are) that our response to the unexpected determines the success of the event. If you want to learn a little more about making lemonade, I found this refreshing TedTalk on eight-year-old, Senna, a lemonade connoisseur. And while you are at it, please share your special ingredients to make lemonade! https://lnkd.in/eUyGwgdF

ProfNeel Update: It takes an anecdote to become an example that lingers on and the hospitality industry is the best place to share them. Storytelling is a powerful communicative methodology that teachers at IHMs only use when teaching the History of the Hotel Industry. Each wine has more than a story to it, just like any beverage has a history with facts to arouse the interest of the student. But these wine stories are hand-me-downs from the occidental world. Likewise there is a need to use storytelling for other chapters too. Teaching Introduction to Beverages with storytelling is but one memorable example shared here. https://lnkd.in/gjbgCqeN Do listen, read up, comment, like, follow, share, subscribe and most importantly enjoy! Embrace the Twist. Enjoy the Turn. #hotelmanagement #hospitality #food&beverage #ted #profneel #tedex #tea #coffee #beverage #him

- Moving minds and inspiring action through visual storytelling built on keen observation, thorough research, and insightful connections. “A line is a dot that went for a walk.” - Paul Klee
People seem to be confused between the idea of smiling to someone and forced to smile in order to be accepted to be part of “society”. Its thought provoking to see how people seem to find “smile to door to open it + reward” great idea, how disturbingly easy seems to dismiss someones very real feelings. Enforcing someone to put a smile on, is not okey. When distressed individual is experiencing really bad day for myriad reasons: had bad interview, lost a job, feeling lonely, divorced, lost someone dear, someone dismissed their feelings etc …. that person needs act of kindness. That persons day can change, when upon entering will be greeted with a genuine smile, getting order with care and pleasant tone. Maybe a reason to visit that wonderful coffeeshop, knowing there is always uplifting and genuine people working there. We are human, and we have power to make people feel better. Do we really need doors with sensors to enforce ”positivity”? How by dismissing someones feelings is a great idea? I read recently we can experience around 34 000 unique emotions…. That says a lot how emotionally downgraded we are are, to fit the standardised values. We have power to change how other people feel simply by smiling to them. It is so uplifting feeling. Its a true super power. And “positivitivism” ad a movement have a very dark history. I read about it.

When we heard MTV was bringing a reality show to Sarasota... I couldn't resist imagining and producng a JDub's take on a reality show. We dubbed the show, "Siesta Shore... The real reality". Like anything we produced, this uh, "take" on a Sarasota based reality show was exactly in line with what the JDub's brand represented. Authenticity just may be the most important aspect of any marketing strategy, industry unimportant. #Branding #Marketing #DigitalMarketing #BrandStrategy #ContentMarketing #SocialMediaMarketing #MarketingStrategy #PersonalBranding #BrandAwareness #MarketingTips #InfluencerMarketing #BusinessGrowth #MarketingTrends #BrandDevelopment #OnlineMarketing
