When I was in the corporate world, I traveled extensively across the Midwest to help open stores for one of your favorite retailers. Even though I didn't have a degree in merchandising, my over five years of hands-on experience in the field proved invaluable. This experience propelled me into a corporate role where I led teams of over 50 visual merchandisers, ensuring stores were meticulously set up according to the planogram and company standards. Despite my expertise, I encountered challenges from some colleagues, particularly women with formal degrees but lacking practical experience. They often dismissed my leadership, believing their credentials automatically made them superior. However, their theoretical knowledge didn't always translate into practical skills like quick decision-making or understanding consumer behavior, which are crucial in retail. From my perspective, qualifications on paper don't always reflect someone's ability to excel in real-world scenarios. It's important not to underestimate individuals who may not have a traditional four-year degree but possess invaluable skills and experience that bring significant value to the table. #retail #fashion #fashionjobs

Experienced Retail Store Manager | Sales & Customer Service Expert | Visual Merchandising Professional | Award-Winning Manager in Fashion Industry
As I reflect on my journey, one of the most transformative phases of my career was stepping into retail management. My experience as a Store Manager at Biba Apparels gave me a new perspective on the retail industry. It wasn’t just about selling clothes; it was about understanding what makes customers tick, what drives them to choose one brand over another, and how to create an inviting atmosphere that makes them want to return. In my role, I was responsible for everything from managing store operations to mentoring a team of talented individuals. Every day came with its own challenges, whether it was balancing inventory, managing peak season transitions, or ensuring that our visual merchandising was on point. But the most rewarding part was seeing how a well-coordinated effort could result in a seamless customer experience and, of course, meeting our sales goals. What makes this industry truly special is the human connection. The relationships you build with your team, your customers, and even your suppliers have a huge impact on the success of the store. Through the highs and lows, I’ve always kept my focus on delivering quality service and creating memorable experiences. I’m incredibly proud of the work I’ve done, but the journey doesn’t stop here. I believe there’s always something new to learn and room to grow. I’m looking forward to what the future holds and eager to connect with professionals who share the same passion for retail excellence. #RetailLeadership #TeamManagement #FashionRetail #SalesGrowth #RetailExperience #CustomerSatisfaction #StoreOperations #VisualMerchandising #CareerJourney #RetailInsights

𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹'𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗿 Today, I want to chat about a dynamic duo that can make or break a business: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿. Think of them as the Batman and Robin of the retail world – when they team up, magic happens! Over the years, I’ve seen first-hand the power of this partnership. A strong Buyer-Merchandiser relationship is not just about crunching numbers and planning ranges; it's about 𝘴𝘺𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺, 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘦𝘴, 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱. When these roles work in harmony, they can predict trends, optimise stock, and drive sales like a well-oiled machine. But what happens when this relationship is out of sync? It’s like trying to dance the tango solo – disjointed and uncoordinated. Without the Buyer and Merchandiser working closely, you 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘬 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘯 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴. I’ve been fortunate to witness how a cohesive Buyer-Merchandiser team can lead to professional success and forge lasting friendships. 📢 A special shoutout to the amazing merchandisers I’ve worked with in the past and those supporting me now! 📢 Together, we’ve created and delivered wonderful products to delight customers, no matter how wild the product ideas were. Let’s celebrate these incredible partnerships and strive to create structures where collaboration is not just encouraged but essential. Here's to the unsung heroes who keep our products flying off the shelves! 🛒✨ 🏆 What’s your secret to successful teamwork in your role? #RetailMagic #BuyerAndMerchandiser #DynamicDuo #CollaborationIsKey #RetailSuccess

What do you do once you've achieved what you worked so hard for? One thing is certain: what got you "here" won’t get you "there." Every achievement is the result of focused drive, hard work, and yes — some luck. When I reached my goal of becoming a Merchandiser, a position I had been striving for over a long period, it was a dream realized. After celebrating and settling into the role for a couple of years, I found myself in a moment of reflection, asking: What’s next? What does this milestone mean for my future? It became clear that the strategies that brought me here wouldn’t take me to the next level. I knew that if I wanted to move into a Senior Merchandiser role, I needed to sharpen my skill set and broaden my perspective. So, I focused on enhancing my "toolbox" with key areas of growth: 1. Deepening industry knowledge 2. Enhancing analytical skills 3. Improving leadership and team management abilities 4. Focusing on strategic planning 5. Demonstrating initiative and driving innovation The path to growth is ongoing, and each step forward requires new behaviors, skills, and insights. The key is to remain adaptable and always ask: how can I add more value and stay ahead of the curve? The journey doesn’t end when you achieve your initial goal. It’s just the beginning of a new chapter—one that challenges you to continuously evolve. #lifelonglearning #Merchandiser

𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒔𝒖𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 - they are not what they seem 🤩 A story of a newly promoted Merchandiser 🤗 + 3 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 👇 Every career has it's own path and challenges. For me the biggest challenge in my role was to have a team. The change was huge. It felt like a completely different job. As soon as I was promoted to a Merchandiser I felt a bit out of my depth suddenly having a team of my equals expecting me to lead, provide focus, goals and direction. The most important realisation for me was to take care of my team, not the business. The team will take care of the business 👌 It was a great and humble learning journey. When reflecting on success I feel most proud when we achieved great outcomes collaborating, taking ownership and finding creative new ways to drive business 💡 When we discussed priorities, lessons learnt from the previous season and chose the area of business we personally knew we can improve, make it better than it was a year before. The ownership level the team took was amazing and how they went for it was breath taking 🥰🥰 The business was facing sales risk and we actually grew business, reacted fast, moved ahead of the other areas in the business as we trusted our "gut feel". This was important as what we wanted to do was never done before, there was no history and the situation never happened before, so no consistant data to back it up. Just latest few weeks trend, "gut-feel" and common sense lead future projections. What surprised me that being new to the role of a team leader the humble mindset of listening and trusting others to do their job actually played a big part in what I now call a success story. So my 3 take-aways from this story are: 1️⃣ No matter how new you are, you are here because others believe you can do the job 2️⃣ Trust your team and inspire them to do their job. Look after your team and they will look after the business 3️⃣ Listen to experience and ideas 💡. Make way for them to happen 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶 🙏 𝘵𝘰 Jessica Hogan 𝘢𝘯𝘥 Holly-Rose Calnan - 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵! 🤗🤗 Have you got any tips from your success stories? Drop down 👇 in the comments! I am thrilled to announce that I have earned a new certification: Lululemon Merchandising Job Simulation from Forage! Lululemon Merchandising Job Simulation on Forage - July 2024 During this job simulation, I contributed to the Lululemon merchandising team's inventory planning for their short capsule. Key tasks included: Data Analysis: Created a pivot table to display the dollar amounts and units of Lululemon shorts shipped globally and in key regions. I summarized these findings to aid in inventory management and financial planning. Sales Analysis: Reviewed sales from the previous day, compared metrics against prior sales, and calculated full-price sell-through to support real-time inventory management decisions. Competitive Analysis: Evaluated the business strategies of Lululemon’s two major competitors by analysing their product categories, colour stories, marketing strategies, and promotions. I then summarized my findings for my manager. This experience has enhanced my skills in merchandising, data analysis, and competitive strategy evaluation, preparing me to contribute effectively to the Lululemon team.
