It's fantastic to see Network Slicing (NS) maturing and being applied in real-world scenarios at Verizon! The future is at a crossroads: one path leads to end-to-end dynamic network slicing, while the other risks stagnation.

I'm excited to share that Verizon has just launched Enhanced Video Calling powered by Network Slicing. Network Slicing allows us to adapt to real time demands of data-intensive applications, ensuring seamless communication during periods of congestion. Not all applications have the same Network demands. When you are video streaming, a buffer of data built in advance preserves the watching experience despite any spikes of traffic on the highly dynamic Wireless channel. A video call instead demands real time transmission with virtually no buffering. Video data traffic that’s delivered late for its frame means a degraded customer experience. Network Slicing enables video calling optimization during periods of congestion. For the third consecutive year Dell'Oro Group has recognized Vecima as the 2023 market share leader in Remote OLTs and Remote MACPHY. On the fiber side, Vecima has completed lab trials and initiated field trials for its Entra All-PON shelf, which allows operators to “cost-effectively deploy fiber-to-the-premises in any market or hub deployment configuration. Providing improved—and especially guaranteed—quality of service in wireless networks is challenging due to varying network loads and changing radio conditions that impact transmission efficiency. So, interesting to see Verizon offering "Enhanced Video Calling," though only on high-end plans. Neutral host private networking is gaining traction in the U.S., allowing multiple mobile operators to share a single wireless infrastructure in venues like factories, schools, and hospitals. This model reduces costs by avoiding separate deployments for each operator. AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon are exploring this approach, with Verizon taking a cautious stance.
