I see so many CEOs trying to feed their intricate retail data into large language models like ChatGPT, hoping for "data-driven" magic. I think there is still a lot of demand for secure, data privacy ensuring alternatives to ChatGPT and Claude. The AI models are amazing, remarkable and game changing. But the privacy aspects are worrying. With most plans, you allow your data to be used for training of the next model generation. In marketing research Data Quality, we all know about the drivers and issues that create poor research outcomes. Now, we have the additional challenge of ChatGPT and its other large language model (LLM) friends. Here’s a way to think about fighting against fraud and poor data quality: First, a layer of strategic Defense: -Prioritize vigilance/ i.e. understand the problem and keep watch. -Automate checks. Second, look at fraud detection: -Look for digital fingerprints. -Check for identical responses. -Prior flagged respondents raise red flags. -ChatGPT’s answers are 7x longer than the average human responses. Finally, understand cheaters’ motives and use these to your advantage: -They want to get paid (cut them off where it matters most) -They are impatient (can you delay payments?) It’s never a one-size-fits-all approach to fixing all problems, but can you afford to not take multiple steps in shoring up your data quality.  Don’t worry, you can still read all the open-ended responses if you feel that it’s your secret weapon. #whatdoesfraudcostyou #restech #marketingresearch #samplefraud
