An early heart defect diagnosis can help to save lives, but it is important to know that the surgeries and treatments that many children endure are not a cure. Children with heart defects, especially those with complex CHDs, will require ongoing care with cardiologists, and potentially other specialized professionals such as physical therapists, speech pathologists, social workers, transplant teams, and more. These medical teams are an important part of the child's health care and help to keep an eye out for potential complications. We would like to acknowledge all of the amazing individuals who help to keep our heart warriors healthy, including the heart parents who spend countless hours caring for these amazing children and taking them to all of their appointments. To help more babies receive their early CHD diagnosis, donate today and consider becoming a monthly donor. https://lnkd.in/eSX63QYv #CHD #CHDAwareness #TinyHeartsCan #1in100 #medicalProfessionals #careTeam #PhysicalTherapist #SpeechPathologist #SocialWorkers #Transplant #heartmom #heartdad #appointments #healthcare #health #Cardiologist #Cardiology #pediatrics #heartwarrior #heart #children #kids #childcare #doctors #medicine #nonprofit #Alberta #family

Nothing is sweeter than a sleeping baby and there are steps every caregiver can take to ensure that their sweet baby is also safe while sleeping. According to the Academy of American Pediatrics, all caregivers should follow these tips for infant safe sleep: 1. Place baby on his or her back for all sleep times. 2. Use a firm sleep surface like a mattress. 3. Keep soft bedding such as blankets, pillows, and bumper pads out of baby's sleep area. 4. Have your baby share your room, not your bed. #kidstalkcac #guidancecentermi #childrensadvocacycenters #nonprofit #children #advocacy #therapy #forensicinterview #medical #traumainformed #childcentered #detroit #southgatemi #waynecountymi #michigan #trauma #healing #resilience #support #donate #mission #endchildabuse #safesleep #infants

Reach Out and Read has always known that reading together helps to forge lasting, meaningful connections between caregiver and child. More and more, the evidence is clear: This time is not just special and joyous — it’s life changing. A growing body of research shows shared reading impacts tar more than language and early literacy; it helps to build bonds, foster social-emotional development, and can even buffer the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences. Based on this evidence, we have updated our model and launched a strategic, five-year rollout of Building Connections Begins at Birth. As this new program expands, medical providers will be trained to emphasize the importance of introducing reading, singing, and talking with babies right from birth. They’ll offer this strategic guidance and provide books during an infant’s first four-child well visits, newborn to 5-month, rather than beginning at the 6-month mark. #ReachOutAndRead #ReachOutAndReadGA #Literacy #Pediatrics #Education #MakingMomentsMatter #Nonprofit #Give #Donate #Books #BuildingConnectionsBeginsatBirth

The numbers are in, and our impact is more visible than ever—90% of all U.S. children 5 and under have had a well-child visit in the last year. Reach Out and Read has the potential to reach and positively impact every single one of them, beginning at birth. During these routine medical checkups, Reach Out and Read clinicians do more than put books in the hands of children who may not have them. These trusted providers also give parents guidance about using shared reading to engage with their children, strengthening early relationships and bolstering early literacy. By integrating our evidence-based model into pediatric care and providing the tools and encouragement families need to read aloud together, we an transform pediatric care practices, foster healthy families, and build vital early language and literacy skills, giving children of all backgrounds and means a better start to life. #ReachOutAndRead #ReachOutAndReadGA #EarlyLiteracy #Pediatrics #Education #MakingMomentsMatter #Nonprofit #Give #Donate #Books #BuildingConnectionsBeginsatBirth

Today is International Day of the African Child, a time to raise awareness for children’s rights and welfare in Africa. Did you know 25% of the world’s children live in Africa? The lack of access to pediatric surgery and care in Africa is a profound crisis. Many children suffer from treatable conditions like congenital anomalies and injuries that go untreated due to the scarcity of specialized medical professionals and facilities. The result? High child mortality rates and chronic disabilities that impair both quality of life and future opportunities. Together with our partners, CSI works to break down barriers to care. Ayeengida, a 15-year old CSI met in Ethiopia, was born with a severe bilateral cleft lip and had never been to school because he was too ashamed. When he woke up after surgery and saw his face in a mirror, his eyes widened and filled with tears. When asked what he wanted to do next, Ayeengida immediately said “go to school,” followed by “I want to be a doctor.” No more shame, and a life full of promise for the future. #nonprofit #Africa #globalhealth #pediatricsurgery #changinglives #pediatrics

Don't Miss Next Week's webinar - Bringing Child Life Expertise to Children Affected By Disaster - presented by Toni Millar, MS Presentation Summary: Child Life Specialists are trained professionals who understand the developmental needs of children, how trauma may affect them, and are skilled in providing therapeutic interventions to help mitigate trauma. Child Life Specialists are employed by most US children’s hospitals to support the psychosocial needs of children undergoing surgery, new diagnoses, and medical treatments, as well as for end-of-life care. This same expertise has transferred well to supporting children and families after a disaster. This presentation will provide an overview of the Child Life profession, how the non-profit Child Life Disaster Relief (CLDR) deploys Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) volunteers to post-disaster sites, an overview of how CLDR/CCLS help children, the effects of trauma on children, and basic, practical tips for the audience on how to connect, communicate, and support children after disasters. This event is organized by the WADEM Pediatric Disaster Medicine Special Interest Group. Register here - https://lnkd.in/gTEqNMU4. #disasters #pediatrics #children #psychosocial #mentalhealth
