Highlights from last week at the 2024 Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) Convention, an annual event that brings together structural engineers, and other professionals from across the industry. Taking place in Portland, Oregon this year, Mike Korolyk, Natalie Tse, SE, Itria Licitra, and Jenna Williams, EIT attended the 4-day event on behalf of Tipping. During the convention, Mike gave a presentation about "An Improved Design Approach for Mass Timber Shear Walls Using CLT Panels and Shear Fuse Connections" and Jenna co-presented with Degenkolb Engineers' Hagen Tam, PE on "The Grind: Overcoming Challenges + Strategies to Succeed" to the SE Pathways Cohort. Natalie Tse, SE, also received the inaugural 2024 SEAOC Service Award for her contributions, service, and leadership to the structural engineering profession, recognizing the impact that SEAOC’s SE Pathways has on the professional community at large. Established in 2022, Tipping is one of many sponsors of this initiative addressing the disparity of engagement and lack of diversity within the California structural engineering profession. For the first time, Tipping Applications also hosted an exhibitor booth to showcase the firm's structural engineering software Sketchulation as well as the professional practice software (people, practice, project, productivity) Cortex. Visited by hundreds of structural engineers with a range of experience levels, free licenses and various PDX prizes (local chocolates and handmade gnomes) were given out – thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth!
