🤝 Meet our partners 🤝   🌟 After presenting all the local facilitators of the project, it's time to showcase the cities leading the charge in climate action!   🏙️ COMUNE DI BRESCIA, a medium-sized city in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, is home to around 200,000 inhabitants and spans 90.3 km². Nestled between Lake Iseo and Lake Garda, under the piedmont corridor of the Italian Alps, Brescia boasts a rich history, with influences from Roman times, medieval and Renaissance architecture, and a strong industrial heritage from the 20th century.   🌱 In recent decades, Brescia has been at the forefront of climate action, adopting its Climate Transition Strategy in 2021 with the “Un Filo Naturale” project, which marks the city’s commitment to ecological transition and sustainability. 💡 Stadt Mannheim has a long history of innovation, from the invention of the bicycle to the world's first rocket-powered aircraft. Today, the city is using this innovative spirit to tackle the challenge of climate change and inspiring other European cities along the way.   🤝 Mannheim is working with other German #PilotCities Stadt Aachen and Stadt Münster on their ‘CoLAB – Committed to Local Climate Action Building’ Pilot Activity. They are not only focusing on citizen engagement and behaviour change to reduce emissions, but are going even further and putting people at the centre of policy, by understanding the values and norms that inform their behaviour, and using this knowledge to make the sustainable choice the easier choice.    The House of Change platform is a key part of the CoLAB project which harnesses radical collaboration within and between cities, as partners bring residents into their cities’ climate plans and mobilise them to act sustainably.   Mannheim is committed to putting people at the centre of climate action and using citizen feedback to inform policy and initiatives. 🌍 Oslo kommune, one of the #MissionCities, has been selected as a finalist for the WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities #PrizeforCities for its project ''The Climate Budget''. This edition of the WRI Ross Centre Prize for Cities is under the theme of “Accelerating Momentum for Climate-Ready Communities”. ✅ Oslo’s Climate Budget integrates greenhouse gas emissions tracking and reduction into its annual budget cycle to improve citizens' wellbeing and quality of life, serving as a global model for climate action. Five finalists were selected for their large-scale innovative and impactful projects .The winner will be announced this fall in New York City and will receive $250,000. Runners-up will each receive $25,000. 📣 "Winners of the WRI Ross Centre Prize for Cities serve as powerful examples, illustrating that transformative change is not just a distant dream — it is possible," said Rogier van den Berg, Global Director, WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities. "Each finalist presents thoughtful, time-tested solutions to complex challenges. We applaud them for their outstanding impact, not only in their own cities but beyond." Yesterday, Lea Rocholl and I attended the "What's new for Green Living Areas" event in Turin. This event focused on the strategies and solutions to increase sustainability in the Mediterranean area. There are a number of solutions to address the common challenges faced by these territories, such as energy and mobility planning. But what should policymakers focus on when planning for this new transition? These are some of the key takeaways from the event: 🌳 Effective climate change mitigation requires more than legislation. Cities need to be equipped with the tools and practical framework to implement it. I see this need in the ArtMED project I am supporting, where frameworks for CCAM are increasingly important to promote a modal shift from private cars to demand-responsive and autonomous public transport. 📄 It is essential to adopt an integrated and systemic approach, addressing different challenges together and facilitating the sharing of resources across different sectors. This approach should include co-creation and co-design, promoting both vertical and horizontal cooperation. ⛰️ Solutions should be tailored to the specific needs of the territory, and citizens and stakeholders should be involved in the transition process. Overall, it was a great event to network and see policymakers and stakeholders coming together to drive positive change! #InterregEuroMED #UrbanDevelopment #Sustainability #MobilitySolutions #AutomatedMobility #OnDemandMobility
