Under the guidance of Professor NS (Subba) Iyer, Independent Director at Kokuyo Camlin Ltd., the Second-year students of TISS ODCL recently completed their course on Employment Relations. Throughout the course, students explored crucial areas such as the evolution of the Industrial Relations landscape in India, conflict management and various conflict styles, key legislations like the Industrial Disputes Act, Payment of Gratuity Act, and ESI Act, along with the concept and practice of Collective Bargaining. Professor Iyer's deep expertise in Industrial relations and labour laws created an engaging learning environment, helping the students connect theoretical frameworks with practical applications in the field of Employee Relations. His teachings encouraged us to critically examine the complexities of managing employee-employer relations in a legal and organisational context. TISS ODCL Cohort 2023-25 recently had the honour of interacting with Mr. Suryanarayan Iyer, Senior Director - India Applications Solution Engineering at Oracle. He emphasized that digital transformation is crucial for organisations to thrive in today’s fast-paced environment. By adopting a cohesive digital approach, businesses can ensure the smooth flow of information, which is key to achieving transformation goals. The distinctiveness of a system, combined with alignment across strategy, structure, and systems, strengthens an organisation’s ability to navigate change. Mr. Iyer also addressed the importance of addressing the "What’s in it for me?" (WIIFM) mindset to gain employee buy-in. Signaling theory plays a critical role here, as the design of processes reflects how employees perceive change. Under the guidance of Professor Mark T Fernandes, the Second-year students of TISS ODCL recently completed their course on Human Process Interventions. Here we explored topics like Third-Party Interventions, Active enquiry, Process Consulting, Relative Deprivation, 2 chair technique and how to leverage intra and intergroup processes for organisational effectiveness. Professor Fernandes' teaching brilliantly connected theory to practice, making each session engaging and highly relevant to real-world organisational challenges. Through interactive methodologies, we gained a nuanced understanding of how human processes shape organizational development and behavior. His exemplary commitment to the subject was evident, motivating us all to think critically and approach organizational issues from a holistic and human-centered perspective. It has significantly enhanced our understanding of Organizational Development (OD) and the critical role of interventions in fostering effective change management. Second-year students of TISS ODCL recently completed their course on Marketing Management under the guidance of Professor Sreeram Sivaramakrishnan. The curriculum covered essential marketing frameworks, such as Segmentation-targeting-positioning (STP), 4 Ps, Consumer behaviour, Pricing and Promotion, etc. Professor Sreeram’s classes seamlessly integrated theoretical models with practical applications. Through numerous case studies, we explored how these concepts could be utilised to address real-world business challenges, providing a strong connection between academic learning and industry practice. The course fostered an environment that encouraged active participation, with open discussions on complex marketing problems and creative solutions. His teaching style made it easy for us to share diverse perspectives, and clarify our understanding in a collaborative manner. This experience enhanced our understanding of marketing’s role in shaping business decisions. We look forward to applying the concepts and insights gained in their future professional endeavours.
