Competitive fencing in the context of the re-enactment of the Viking period has never been able to take advantage of real historical sources for a complete study of how to make the use of the various weapons as effective as possible. Iconographic representations and sagas provide many insights, but we really know nothing precise about this topic. However, over the last twenty years a culture of use of these weapons has developed based on experiences and field tests during the scene's events. In this small publication dedicated to the members of Visundr, in addition to the observations collected over the years, we also evaluate an interesting parallel on the role of the warrior equipped with a Danish axe in relation to the modern marskman, an elite operator present in most actual armies' units, trained to act in collaboration with other elements to engage the enemy at medium or long range
