"How do we enable growth when we don't know where it will happen? It can be a challenge - but it's also an opportunity to innovate and shape our communities responsibly. We were excited to talk about our Infrastructure Acceleration Fund-funded Water Infrastructure for Growth project at the Stormwater Conference today! This project, led by Tonkin + Taylor, in partnership with Mott Macdonald, for Hutt City Council, focuses on upgrading Lower Hutt's stormwater capacity, paving the way for the construction of new homes. We dove into viable infrastructural solutions for this brownfield urban intensification, accompanied by wider actions needed to promote anticipated growth without increasing flood risks to both current and future residents. Come and say Hi! If you are at the 2024 Stormwater Conference! Or reach out if you have questions later. #UrbanGrowth #StormwaterManagement"

(It's a series of posts, but when you only post once every four years, it may be appropriate) When you put your head down things happen but it can disconnect a professional from society and reality. It's been a hectic and fun ride the past few years at WGM and here's a few highlights of the past few months; our Natural Resources team has gathered the wagons to make these happen and I'm proud and humbled by their ability to step-up to make these projects successful reality and not just an exercise in punching a clock. Abby Indreland, PE, Bruce Anderson, Spencer Schock, Patrick Treacy, Jessica Erben. Missoula County Rock Creek Bridge Scour Mitigation: As many of us in Montana are aware we have aging bridge infrastructure that requires some much needed attention and maintenance. WGM teamed with Missoula County Public Works to address the scour critical concerns for the Rock Creek Bridge over the Clark Fork River. Design and permitting were accomplished with an extraordinary effort over less than two-months. Missoula County Public Works operators dove in headfirst and exceeded our predicted production rates by 3X! Three instream bents protected for the future and one abutment to boot. Rivers move fast but we moved faster.

As LIFECYCLE BUILDING CENTER and Jimmy Mitchell and Shan Arora, J.D., LFA, and many others have been espousing for years... there is great value in salvaging building materials. Here's a poignant story of one man's mission to save some timber from a house before the excavators destroy it. Worth a quick watch! https://lnkd.in/eP3F2PTV
Saving this house’s wood from landfill (about $15k worth)

The City of Pearland, Texas, has broken ground on a new water #reclamation facility and expansion. The Barry Rose WRF expansion is expected to reach its new #treatment capacity in June 2027, with all final demolition and decommissioning of the Longwood WRF completed by early 2028. Bravo Pearland. That’s water management 2.0. For #water #management 3.0 maybe we simultaneously build the purification plant to clean that water to drinking standards, then drink it. Maybe we aren’t there yet, but we are getting there. Necessity will drive production. I predict we’re not far from it. A billion dollars starts the ball rolling, but the need is great and demand is growing. Anser Advisory Robert Sheets https://lnkd.in/grG5_AtE

A few weeks ago we released a blog about our ongoing Livingston Pond E MAGNA Stormpark™ project. It's really great to see a positive response to this project! For those of you who haven't had a chance to read it yet, here are some highlights: - The Livingston Pond E MAGNA Stormpark™️ project is a beautifully designed and highly functional stormwater management system in Northwest Calgary encompassing 500 ha of serviced development area. - This MAGNA Stormpark™ is designed to replace the existing wetland area with a green infrastructure solution to manage the community's stormwater. - MAGNA worked closely with the client to ensure the community's needs were met, one of which is preserving the community's character by prioritizing urban green space. Phase 1 Complete
DWR was proud to join the Bureau of Reclamation and Friant Water Authority last week to celebrate the completion of Phase 1 of the Friant-Kern Canal Middle Reach Capacity Correction Project. “There are few bigger priorities in water management than readying ourselves to move and store water when it’s wet. It takes partnerships like this between federal, state, and local governments to make sure our infrastructure is up to the task. That’s why DWR is so excited to celebrate today’s milestone on the federal Friant-Kern Canal. We look forward to similar partnerships to ensure that the California Aqueduct and Delta Mendota Canal are rehabilitated to meet the challenges of weather whiplash that lie ahead.” - DWR Director Karla Nemeth #California #Water #Project #FriantKern #Canal

In Richmond Hill, ON, aging watermains posed challenges to the community’s water infrastructure. That’s why the City turned to ALTRA | SANEXEN #CIPP for a solution that’s sustainable, cost-effective, and minimally disruptive. Our team at FER-PAL collaborated to rehabilitate over 3.5 km of watermain pipe, extending its lifespan and ensuring reliable service for residents. Thanks to Trenchless Technology and @Kyle Paterson City of Richmond Hill for highlighting the benefits of #CuredInPlacePipe lining for watermain rehabilitation. 10moThis project was a perfect example of what we call, material kitting. The entire batch of studs, track, decking and siding, was ordered to specific sizes and merely assembled as a kit in the field. When there isn't enough upfront time to prefabricate, on-time delivery of these components is the next best thing.
