Today the IMO Sub-Committee on Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW) completed its 10th session with the following outcome. - The Sub-Committee finalized the Terms of Reference for the review and revision of the STCW Convention and Code. It is intended to start the work by an intersessional working group that may meet in February 2025 the week before the scheduled meeting of HTW 11. The work will be carried out in two stages, first a comprehensive review and secondly, based on the outcome of the former, a more targeted revision. - The Sub-Committee agreed to develop guidance and ultimately training standards for working on board ships with new fuels and power sources. This work will be done parallel to the review and revision of the STCW Convention and Code. - The Sub-Committee validated the revised models courses 1.32 and 1.35 and agreed on terms of reference for revising model courses 1.37, 2.06 and 1.21. The revision of the latter model course (Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities) regards incorporating the recent amendments to STCW Table A-VI/1-4 (a new competence on prevention and mitigation of bullying and harassment in the maritime sector).
