Hospitality staff form the backbone of our healthcare environment. In the labyrinth of corridors and the quiet hum of a hospital's heart, they are the ones who ensure a warm smile greets every patient and a clean, safe environment awaits every visitor. Here’s how Wise Medical Staffing Recruiters break it down: Why is there a 50-100-mile policy for travel nurses? 🚗 Tax Benefits and Compliance The main reason for the 50-100-mile policy is tied to tax regulations. To qualify for the tax-free stipends that make travel nursing so attractive—covering housing, meals, and other expenses—the IRS requires that your assignment is far enough from your permanent home to necessitate temporary lodging. Typically, this distance is set around 50-100 miles to ensure it’s truly a "travel" position. 🚗 Encouraging True Mobility Hospitals implement this policy to ensure they are bringing in nurses who are truly “traveling” to the location, not local nurses who might otherwise commute. This helps maintain the integrity of the travel nursing model, which is designed to address staffing shortages by bringing in outside expertise. 🚗 Facility Requirements and Market Dynamics Many hospitals have specific needs that can only be met by bringing in nurses outside the local area.
