🇸🇬 Happy National Day, Singapore! A nation renowned for its knowledge-driven, resilient, and forward-looking spirit. Wishing all my Singaporean friends and colleagues continued success and prosperity. In the West, we can certainly admire—and perhaps envy—how you consistently turn dreams into reality. Singapore is the prime example of science-based country and the justification why other small nations should not stop dreaming.
Happy National Day, Singapore! This year, we proudly celebrate 59 years of independence. As we reflect on our nation's journey and achievements, let us continue working towards a better tomorrow together, as one united people!

🌟 Family Culture: The Essence of Cultural Heritage 🌟 Today is the Double Ninth Festival (Chongyang Festival) 🎋, one of China’s important traditional holidays. Like many other festivals, it carries rich cultural meanings such as honouring elders 👴👵, cherishing family bonds 👨👩👧👦, and reflecting on traditions. These practices are more than just customs; they represent the deep-rooted family values passed down through generations. 💖 China’s long-standing cultural history is built upon the emphasis on family culture and moral upbringing. Unlike wealth and power, which are temporary, values like diligence 💪, courage 🦁, and harmonious relationships 🤝 shape a person’s character and guide their actions throughout life. 💡 Cultural inheritance is far more valuable than power and wealth because it nurtures the spirit and instils principles that endure across generations. 🌱✨ For example, Confucius left behind not riches, but a profound cultural and moral foundation. His teachings on virtues like filial piety 🙇♂️, hard work 🔨, mutual respect 🫂, and the pursuit of knowledge 🎓 have influenced Chinese families for over two thousand years. These values continue to inspire generations, showing that a strong family culture focused on self-improvement and positive social relationships is more enduring than material wealth. As we celebrate the Double Ninth Festival today, let’s remember that the true heritage we pass down is not material, but the enduring family spirit 🌟 that strengthens future generations, ensuring the continuity of our cultural identity and values for centuries to come.

Europe celebrates a new year with a variety of fascinating traditions, often rooted in historical folklore, and an omen of good fortune, prosperity and abundance. Across the continent, symbolic foods play a key role: Spaniards eat 12 grapes in sync with the 12 midnight chimes for luck, while Italians enjoy lentils, representing wealth and good fortune. 🎇Noise-making and energetic gestures, like fireworks displays across the continent are thought to mark a fresh start and drive away negativity. Finnish households predict the year ahead by casting molten tin into water, interpreting its shapes as omens. Meanwhile, In Bulgaria, the Kukeri—villagers dressed in intricate costumes—parade through communities to chase away evil spirits. Whether more widespread and newer, or more local and ancient, these customs reflect the universal spirit of hope and togetherness to receive the new year. 🎆 How do you celebrate where you live?

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! Here are some fun, important facts: • OU honors a wide variety of holidays and events. Among these events includes Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Native American Heritage Month, which recognize the rich history and culture of Native peoples. • Tribal Nations are key contributors to OU, investing in multi-million dollar projects, providing financial support, promoting research initiatives, and supporting their citizens to pursue higher education here. Many also employ OU alumni and offer internship opportunities open to all students. • In 2019, tribes in Oklahoma contributed $15.6 billion (yes, with a “B”) to the state’s economy—a significant impact that would have otherwise fallen on taxpayers. (Spoiler: It’s projected to be higher for 2021). • Did you know that Rep. Tom Cole, Will Rogers, Tom Love, Jim Thorpe, and Maria Tall Chief, among so many others, are or were citizens of Tribal Nations in Oklahoma? Raise your hand if are represented by Rep. Tom Cole, used the airport, bought gasoline from Love’s Travel Stops, celebrated decorated American athletes at the Olympics, or enjoy the revolution of modern day American ballet. 🙋🏽♀️ I acknowledge that I greatly benefit from the significant contributions of Tribal Nations and tribal people to the University of Oklahoma, the State of Oklahoma, and the United States.
𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬' 𝐃𝐚𝐲! Join us in celebrating and honoring the vibrant histories, cultures and contributions of Indigenous communities with a full day of events on our Norman campus. Indigenous Peoples' Day honors and gives recognition of tribal nations across North, Central, and South America and the Pacific Islands. This year's events are sponsored and organized by OU's American Indian Student Association. Celebrations include tribal flag walk, tipi setup, drum and song, dance performances, various cultural workshops, and cultural foods and beverages. Celebrated annually on the second Monday of October, Indigenous Peoples' Day is meant to honor and celebrate the holiday with a glimpse into many activities showcasing Indigenous culture.
