📣 Attention all! Our Area Agency on Aging has been navigating through a tough year, grappling with budget cuts to essential programs and services for our senior community. The federal funding from COVID is coming to an end, and the base funding from the Older American’s Act hasn’t seen an increase since 2018, even as the cost of living continues to rise for us all.
These programs play a pivotal role in enabling our seniors to stay in their homes and avoid moving into assisted living facilities for as long as possible. But the lack of funding is taking a toll on all aging services programs, including home-delivered meals, in-home health services, wellness checks, and transportation for medical appointments. Without significant increases, we may have to continue cutting programs and limiting the number of participants, making these services accessible only to the very poor.
A big shout-out to BEACON Senior News for shedding light on this pressing issue that all 16 state Area Agencies on Aging are currently facing. 🙏
While we’re on the hunt for alternative funding sources to keep these programs running for our region, we need your help!
