Awesome! And, because this work is so important, we should consider forming #unusualcollaborations to #accelerate and #generate #innovative #solutions (think 1+1=3) #strategic #wisdom #measurementmatters
Charles William Eliot Professor of Education at Harvard University President (2024-2025), National Council on Measurement in Education
Serving on the Joint Committee is one of the most important opportunities in our field, to engage members of 3 organizations (the American Educational Research Association, the American Psychological Association, and the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME)) and forge new consensus about the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing. In addition to representing AERA and APA, well over half of Joint Committee members have served NCME in major roles, as presidents, board members, program chairs, and recognized experts (Ye Tong, Stephen Sireci, Ellen Forte, Laura Hamilton, Qiwei He, Cara Cahalan Laitusis, Rochelle Michel, Mike Russell, Chad Buckendahl...). The current Standards (https://lnkd.in/e2ZHKQXt) are 10 years old and are missing important new perspectives on fairness, technology (including Artificial Intelligence), and the diversifying uses of test scores for research, policy, and practice. In my presidential year, I look forward to engaging NCME members in the revision process with the Joint Committee, through webinars, in our annual meeting #NCME25, and through our scholarship and publications. https://lnkd.in/eFj2AyR7

Yesterday Advance HE and Universities UK hosted an online workshop connecting governors, executive and Governance professionals on 'Navigating the Governance and Executive Boundary' as part of our work on Governing and Leading Transformation. We gad fantastic contributions from Association of Heads of University Administration (AHUA) and Committee of University Chairs. I've said this before and will likely say it again; one of the best things about working for a sector agency is being able to connect and facilitate conversations for shared learning between institutions and different stakeholders. A privileged position to be in. As part of the workshop Jan Juillerat expertly steered us through the current context of HE and our understanding if the boundary. We then moved in to fantastic breakout discussions looking at how we would respond to scenarios that many HEIs are facing. We concluded with an expert panel Chaired by Stephanie Harris with insightful guests Wendy Larner, Dorothy Mackenzie, and Amanda Wilcox who were able to share practises from their current and previous institutions within the UK and globally. My own key takeaway is that as universities and the wider HE sector face increasing challenges there is a need for accelerated transformation beyond continual improvement. The Governing Body needs to be heavily engaged, hold executive accountabe but also allow Exec the space to lead. Governors bring a great deal of skills and expertise which should be drawn upon, but must also know when to step back. HE must transform to become sustainable and meet needs of society. The traditional governance and executive boundary needs to become more fluid and instead guided by principles that work within each institutions own context - more a framework than a hard line. Finally, thanks to the people in the background who make these events happen. Laura Willman Shelley Ramsey Jake Truman and Nina Langlie were all vital in the success of this event.

Knowledge transfer is crucial for maintaining continuity and clarifying roles and responsibilities on your research team. That's why The University of Alabama, Birmingham’s Gina Hedberg and Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Heather Darlin provided a deep dive on the topic at this year's Connect by Cayuse Virtual Conference, sharing their advice on effective knowledge transfer with insights from their own institutions. Read our latest blog summary of their presentation for a breakdown of why knowledge transfer is important and the key steps for developing a proactive knowledge transfer plan: https://lnkd.in/gGZUcnqa

Last Friday, we delivered our 1st Competency-Based Framework Webinar with UK and global institutions, sharing insights and experiences around building a more inclusive, competency-based approach to doctoral admissions. Some of the highlights included: 🔹 Framework Overview: A reintroduction to the EDEPI Competency-based Framework, emphasizing its role in shaping equitable recruitment practices and enhancing the selection process for doctoral candidates. 🔹 Institutional Spotlight: Two of our pilot institutions and three early adopter institutions shared their hands-on experience, showcasing how they’ve integrated the framework into their current recruitment processes and the impact it’s had on their candidate selection. 🔹 Breakout Discussions: We explored the current challenges institutions face and exchanged practical solutions for implementing the framework in breakout rooms. It was fantastic to hear so many ideas and best practices from diverse academic contexts. Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to launch our 2nd Competency-Based Framework Webinar in Spring 2025 to showcase in-depth stories of case study institutions to enable continual framework improvement. If your institution is piloting or interested in piloting the EDEPI Competency-based Framework, we’d love for you to join us. 💬 Interested in joining or learning more?
