Great to be on the main stage at Connected Britain moderating a panel. Many interesting points were raised - including the focus on best-in-class build and connection costs, the drive to cash breakeven, whether the market will split wholesale providers and retail ISPs, the difficulty of aligning multiple investors in consolidation which will limit the pace of consolidation and increase the possibility of distressed assets, a switch to rural build for some players to get first mover advantage and resetting take up expectations in the likelihood of 3x overbuild for most premises on average.
Pictured below is Clive Quantrill, Senior Partner at Cambridge Management Consulting and expert in Telecoms Strategy & Transformation, moderating a panel at Connected Britain. 'Commercial models and the investment context for UK fibre rollout' discussed the impact that consolidation had on the UK fibre market and the outlook for the market according to the investor. Thank you to everyone who attended this topical discussion. #connectedbritain #telecoms #strategy #commercial #investment #fibre

How will Vocus Group's $5.25 billion acquisition of TPG Telecom's fibre network impact the future of telecommunications in Australia? With this deal, Vocus gains control of over 50,000 km of fibre cables, positioning Vocus as a major player in Australia’s digital infrastructure and potentially reshaping the industry and increasing competition. This deal follows a strategic review by TPG, which will retain its mobile network and consumer business. The transaction is expected to be completed by late 2025, subject to regulatory approval, and is seen as a transformative move that will boost competition in the Australian telecommunications market. Realise that BT has a market value of only GBP £14bn these days (only the 34th largest company in the FTSE 100 index) = A rounding error in the sums wasted on HS2 (rather than laying super-fast fibre up and down the existent physical, now-publicly owned rail network) . . . BT should be near the top of a ranking of enterprises whose infrastructure is crucial to the smooth functioning of the UK economy. A reliable, fast broadband network should be non-negotiable in the digital age (but BT will probably remain the biggest [=near monopoly, private sector] provider for decades given the lifespan of the kit). Of all the privatisation robberies = BT has caused the largest long-term harm to the U.K.
