Last week we presented at the Institute for CTE Educators. Along with the Tennessee Department of Education and our district partners, we shared about the TAP State-Certified Pre-Apprenticeship, which serves as one of the entry points to the teacher talent pipeline through partnerships between local high schools and local community colleges. If your school district is interested in a TAP pre-apprenticeship program, please complete this form: https://bit.ly/3WhRYox Thanks to these four pilot districts for sharing their experience on a panel! Getting outside of one's comfort zone through hands-on experiences with learning is hands-down one of the most transformative opportunities out there! "Rutgers–Camden supports a wide variety of #experiential programs, including #internships, #civic learning opportunities, #research projects, and #travel abroad. The university also offers students, regardless of major, the chance to earn a certificate in #civicengagement and #socialchange as part of their coursework. To earn the certificate, students must complete a series of five courses, a capstone presentation, and 100 hours of direct community involvement in Camden. Time and money are often the most significant barriers to taking advantage of these valuable learning experiences, especially for #firstgeneration #college students. Recent data reveals that nationally, only 8% of first-generation students travel abroad, and only 35% of first-generation seniors have participated in an internship. Rutgers–Camden seeks to overcome these barriers through counseling and support, including financial help through the Chancellor’s Experiential Learning Fund. The fund provides students with up to $3,000 to use towards their participation in an experiential learning activity. Funds can be used for travel, to cover costs while completing an unpaid internship, or to support independent research."
Ahead of the Experiential Learning Fair on October 22, check out how Rutgers–Camden is making the unforgettable affordable through scholarships for hands-on educational opportunities. https://lnkd.in/eaPsMqef

Reflections from my little brother 🤗 My little brother finishes his A-Levels today yay 🙌🏾 I for one so happy because he can finally relax and let go of the stress that’s been eating at him for the past year. Before he went to school this morning I was discussing what I was like on the last day of my exams. I cried the whole morning I think my friends mum thought I wasn’t going to be able to do it! Those tears were a release of all the worries and fears that had been building in me my whole journey through school. I can’t help but think how unhealthy that is and what could have been done to prevent that breakdown. ❌ Stop pressuring students into beleiving that exams are the be all or end all. That their academic achievements define them, and maybe just maybe they will stop attaching their self worth to them. ✅ Teach emotional intelligence in the school curriculum and students would be able to better emotionally regulate during stressful periods rather than turning into shells of themselves. 💀 ✅ Embed entrepreneurial and practical skills into the curriculum. University isn’t for everyone. Some people will thrive in apprenticeships or starting their own businesses. 🏆 If you’re in the education sector and you need any support with the last two points feel free to DM me. Comment down below your thoughts on how the school system prepares students for the future ⤵️💬 Enjoy this clip of my brother racing to finish his exams 🤣🥹

Providing cost-free access to career training and teacher credentialing could be the solution many districts and schools need to alleviate teacher shortages! However, we will also have to watch very closely how this progresses. Teacher burnout is already so high, and now it’s up to teachers to also train new teachers. It could be a moment where this good idea finally adds the burden that makes experienced educators, who are capable of being these mentor-teacher, burnout and leave, exacerbating the problem this is supposed to fix. For me, I feel very nervous as I celebrate this program’s foundation. As a departmental leader at a DCPS school, I have not heard a single bit of news about the program prior to this post. It also seems OSSE is still hiring Program Specialists for this. That combination of no internal news and the program is still filling roles tasked with rolling out and managing the program does not inspire confidence that this currently being done with fidelity. To ensure this program provides the opportunities to those it aims to benefit, as well as not cause more strain on our teachers, OSSE would do well to build this program gradually while being proactive about every single step it takes along the way. I want so much for this to succeed! It could go a long way to turning around the crisis our education system has faced for so long now!
