National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is held to bring attention to motorist and worker safety and mobility issues in work zones. Work zones play a key role in maintaining and upgrading our Nation's roadways. Daily changes in traffic patterns, narrowed rights-of-way, and other construction activities often create a combination of factors which require motorists to pay extra close attention. Everyone plays a role in work zone safety. In work zones, there is little to no margin for driving error. Driving too fast, inattentively or aggressively through a roadway work zone places the lives of roadway workers at risk. Remember to slow down, stay alert, and drive with caution in work zones.
