Portugal: The Ministry of Health has told the press that #heatedtobacco will not have to carry combined #healthwarnings (meaning both text and an image) after the approval of the law that transposed the Commission's Delegated Directive (EU) 2022/2100. "In all Member States of the European Union, heated tobacco can be classified as a #smokable or #smokeless #tobaccoproduct. In the case of #combustedtobacco, the prohibition of odours or #flavours and the requirement for combined health warnings apply. It’s extraordinary that common sense measures such as the labelling of alcohol products has to be described as ‘controversial’. In Ireland polling data has found very strong public support for this (over 70%). The ‘controversy’ stems from an industry that has been allowed to get away with both setting and moving the goal posts in a manner matched only by the fossil fuels and tobacco industries. Urgent Call for Advancing Public Health Policies in Tobacco and Alcohol Control Key policy initiatives that we previously expected, such as the Tobacco Products Directive, the Tobacco Taxation Directive, and regulations on alcohol products - including detailed consumer information on ingredients and nutritional values, health warning labelling systems, and online marketing strategies - are now strikingly missing from the roadmap, leaving us uncertain about future developments. Delays in implementing evidence-based equitable policies, stricter controls measures, and comprehensive strategies not only undermine efforts to combat cancer but also hinder broader public health objectives aimed at reducing the prevalence of NCDs. We are grateful for the dedication of our member organisations, such as the Association of European Cancer Leagues, International Organisation of Good Templars, European Cancer Organisation, Lithuanian Tobacco and Alcohol Control Coalition, and Smoke Free Partnership. In Ghana, the FDA has the “Take Back Unwanted Medicine from Consumers" (TBUM) project, which aims to take back unused and expired medicines from consumers and dispose them off safely. 3. Dispose of medications in the trash by placing them in a sealed bag with an undesirable substance, like cat litter, and never flush any medication unless it's on the FDA's "flush list."
