Missing Voices on Corporate Boards To Their Peril Sharing Forbes Coaches Council's Kelly C. Huang's post about the missed value creation opportunity when corporate boards do not add women to their boards. I connected with Kelly when I joined Forbes Communications Council. She gave me great advice on Forbes Councils and networking for board roles. Like Kelly, I am optimistic that corporate boards for companies of all sizes will see the value when their board looks like and values their diverse stakeholders, consumers and the public and act accordingly. Representation numbers matter upfront to ensure seats at the boardroom but the board culture must be equally inclusive of different perspectives as the company culture itself. Gender, disability and ethnicity just to name a few. #CorporateBoards #WomenCorporateDirectors #SeatsOnTheBoard #BoardDiversity #DiversityStartsAtTop #RepresentationMatters #AAPIBoardDirectors #DisabilityInclusion #WomenSupportingWomen #ForOurDaughters #ForbesCommunicationsCouncil #ForbesCoachesCouncil #ThoughtLeadership

Only 1 in 5 board seats are held by women, according to Canadian Chamber of Commerce: this report pointed to outdated #corporateculture as well as poor recruitment and retention practices as reasons for why women often struggle to move beyond middle management to top jobs like board director. "It's pulling women across the #pipeline, and recognizing that when they do leave for maternity leave, or for other purposes,… that doesn't negate the skills that they bring forward, their ability to progress if they're actually invested in properly," said author. She said if companies want to improve their balance in the #boardroom, they should take steps from tracking hiring and promotions to offering opportunities for upskilling and flexible work. This recommendation is similar to Lean In's latest Women at Work report in highlighting the #BrokenRung as the root cause of lack of women in leadership. Women still seriously underrepresented in Canada's boardrooms

Nice to see Canada's Women on Boards Dr. Deborah Rosati in the CBC Television feature in Kelly C. Huang's original LinkedIn post. #CorporateBoards #WomenOnBoards #MyTwoHomeCountries

Kelly, the dynamic is leading women leaders and executives to leave their companies to start their own business OR move to bigger markets like the US.
