In October 2020, as the world adapted to a new normal, Baotree was embarking on a pivotal journey. Together with our Founder, Dimitri Syrris, and Co-founder, Skye, had the privilege of taking our newly unwrapped app for its first field test in Laikipia, Kenya, with one of our wonderful partners.
Our mission was clear: harness the power of data to support community-led conservation efforts. Excited and eager, we spent our first-day collecting valuable data on biodiversity with the community, guided by the incredible Community Manager, Paul.
But here’s where it gets interesting...
After a fulfilling yet exhausting day, Dimitri and Skye decided to tidy up the dataset. We aimed to clear some initial test entries, making way for the real insights. However, in the zeal of the moment, Skye accidentally deleted all the day’s work—150 tasks vanished into the digital ether!
The moment of realisation was stark; Skye was as pale as a ghost, staring at a blank screen. Yet, Dimitri’s reaction was nothing short of inspiring—he laughed and reminded Skye that this was exactly why we were here: to test not just our software but our resilience and ability to handle unexpected challenges.
Over breakfast the next day, with Paul's laughter echoing our light-hearted approach, we knew we were ready to face another day. This hiccup turned out to be a profound reminder that mistakes are merely stepping stones to mastery in innovation and in life.
So, here’s to embracing our blunders, learning from them, and moving forward—because sometimes, you need to lose the data to find your path.
