Renewable natural gas (RNG) doesn’t get much love from environmental regulators such as the EPA and California Air Resources Board. Engine makers don’t earn credits for selling #naturalgas engines. And it’s not considered a #zeroemission fuel by those government agencies that regulate the #transportation sector’s pollutants. Ontario is taking a step toward modernizing its #transportation sector by introducing a new Automated Commercial Motor Vehicle (ACMV) Pilot Program. This 10-year pilot, proposed under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), aims to test #automated #commercialvehicles on Ontario roads before the province makes a decision on the wider rollout of #autonomoustrucks across the province. The program, which applies to trucks weighing more than 4,500 kgs, builds on the success of the 2016 Automated Vehicle Pilot Project, which focused on non-commercial vehicles. The ACMV pilot will focus on evaluating the capabilities and safety of heavy-duty commercial vehicles with Levels 3, 4, and 5 automation. https://lnkd.in/gfBkk2J9

The economic outlook was top of mind for #fleet executives attending the American Trucking Associations Management Conference & Exhibition. James Menzies attended the event and says that it emerged, for the second consecutive year, as the top concern shared by #truckingindustry professionals. The American Transportation Research Institute released its 20th annual list of top industry issues at MC&E. On a scale of one to 10, the impact of #tire inflation pressure on overall vehicle #fuelefficiency is probably no higher than 1.5. But fleets looking to check all the #sustainability boxes in their operation still sweat these small details. Underinflated tires lead to higher than optimal rolling resistance, with leads in turn to higher fuel consumption. Even if you’re not laying awake at night worrying about what else you can do to forestall climate change, reducing your spend on fuel and tires might be sufficient motivation for the extra bit of effort needed to maintain optimum tire inflation pressure.
