The future of Physical Design Software can be summarized in one sentence: “Cloud-based, collaborative tooling with an increasing amount of design automation.” We're on the brink of this paradigm. While incumbents enhance existing products, real progress requires new, groundbreaking solutions. As they acquire startups to delay disruption, legacy CAD-PLM platforms, burdened by outdated technology, struggle to keep up. The market is primed for disruption The potential for innovation in this space is immense as we look ahead. Now is the time to push boundaries 🚀 Thanks Gabriella G. and Eric Flaningam Image Source & Article: https://lnkd.in/eXUXnH-a
I really resonate with your insights on the future of Physical Design Software. The shift towards cloud-based, collaborative tooling is indeed a game-changer, especially as we see the convergence of AI and simulation technologies. As a Cloud/DevOps and AI consultant with a keen interest in simulation and CFD, I believe that the integration of advanced design automation can significantly enhance efficiency and innovation in this space. Your point about the market being primed for disruption is spot on. While incumbents may try to hold onto their legacy systems, the real opportunity lies in leveraging cutting-edge technologies to redefine the landscape. I’m excited about the potential for startups to bridge the gap between traditional methods and innovative solutions, especially in the realm of physics simulations on the cloud. Looking forward to seeing how this evolves!
Augmenta is a brilliantly innovative company led by the visionary Francesco Iorio. The whole industry is absolutely ripe for disruption. AI needs to work with the folks that developed the industry. It's best to plan for evolution, not revolution. Too many times in history have we seen high value, high potential progression thwarted by incumbents that don't understand the technology evolution is to help, not threaten.
Great overview, I know from experience keeping this up to date is very tough. The startup ecosystem is very exciting and certainly the place to find new and innovative technology.

2moI like this post. "The market is primed for disruption", true it is a particular moment in the CFD world after several years of what I call "gigantism" but this is not a guarantee that it won't be just something temporary. I also don't like to refer/link "scientific advancements" to the market (although it is what pay the rent at the end of the month!) ... The clever use of science (as CFD field in all its declinations is) should design the market instead. The amount of work that a proper E2E integration of new technologies requires can still be too much for startups (depending on applications, funding, people involved etc.) so some cool ideas can lie in the middle between a startup with not enough "power" and a "XX century" monopolist.
