DEI doesn't stop with HR policies. In our recent longform report, we delved into how throwing events to celebrate events from all cultures helps bring DEI to the forefront of your team's minds, as well as making those from all cultures feel recognised. What events you celebrate will look different for each company, but we've put in some examples and you can read the full report for more (link in comments).

Happy International HR Day to all my fellow HR professionals! 🎉 Working in HR isn’t easy. We are often the “bearer of bad news”, so we end up being the people nobody wants to see walk into the office. But we also do a lot of a great work. We help people find jobs and advance in their career. We support people when they are in need of accommodations or LOA’s. We are there when people need to report misconduct. We help to maintain fairness and equity in the workplace. The list could go on forever… Don’t let the negetive sterotype of HR get you down. Take today to celebrate your wins and the good you do for people everyday.

Today celebrates HR International Day. It is one day of the year where we can pause to celebrate our journeys and reflect on the path ahead. I came into HR as I did not agree with a colleague's treatment by a previous employer. Take some time to recall the reason why you joined the profession, acknowledge how far you've come, and celebrate what you have achieved. #hrinternationalday #peopleprofession #enjoywhatyoudo

It was a delight to be in front of HR personnels at the conference organised by Public Affairs Ireland for Public Sector professional. The theme was HR Unconference - Putting the Human back into Human Resources. In the panel conversation facilitated by Síle O'Donnell (FCIPD), we looked at how to build inclusive workplaces. I drew attention to the following: 1) The importance of taking an intersectionality approach to how we do HR 2) that HR is key to changing who accessses the employment ladder. They need cooperation from senior management to be fully effective. I provided a few suggestions. 3) the impact of our decisions does not just affect the one CV, but it can have a generational impact. 4) I addressed the need for belonging as a goal in the workplace compared to making acceptance the target. If belonging is the focus, then we make the new staff the problem but if acceptance is the focus, then the organisation becomes the one that can put things in place to make their organisations more accepting of difference. Think about it. Minorities never ask to belong. They ask that they want to be accepted. Acceptance is actually a pathway to belonging. When people are accepted, they will have a sense of belonging. Read my book on racial stratification. I have a chapter on acceptance, how it operates and how it’s what we need. Thanks to my co panellist Katy Lumsden. It was lovely meeting you. Thanks to Emma McBride for inviting me and for a great conference.

Happy International HR Day! Today, as we celebrate International HR Day, I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible work that HR professionals do every day. Our role often goes unnoticed, yet we are essential in ensuring that workplaces run smoothly and that employees feel supported and valued. Being in HR means juggling a variety of tasks—from recruiting and onboarding new talent to handling employee relations and navigating complex workplace issues. It's a job that requires empathy, patience, and a deep understanding of both people and business operations. Despite the challenges and occasional misconceptions about our role, we remain dedicated to fostering positive work environments and helping employees thrive. We face pressures and expectations, just like everyone else, and we strive to meet them with professionalism and a positive attitude. So today, let’s appreciate the hard work, dedication, and resilience of HR professionals around the world. Your efforts make a significant difference in the lives of employees and the success of organizations. Happy International HR Day to all my fellow HR colleagues! Keep up the amazing work! 🙂
