Together for Short Lives’ Post

This Sunday, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey I’ve had as a full-time carer to my daughter, Holly. For 18 years she had complex health needs from the moment she was born, and those years brought a unique set of challenges, but also profound opportunities to make a difference. Through Holly’s story, I was able to engage with a community of people, sharing experiences and insights that helped drive meaningful change in the lives of others. I learned firsthand about resilience, empathy, and the incredible power of advocating for what’s right. The conversations, the awareness raised, the lives impacted—those moments continue to fuel me with purpose. As I reflect on this chapter, I deeply miss that side of my life. But I also recognize the strength and growth that came from it. Through those years of care and advocacy, I discovered a power within myself I didn’t know existed. And even now, that strength continues to guide me in everything I do. To anyone who may be facing their own struggles or who is in a caregiving role please remember your journey, no matter how difficult, holds within it the seeds of change, both for yourself and for the world around you. You are stronger than you realize, and every step forward, no matter how small, is progress.
