As you may be aware, one of my volunteer roles is as Convenor of Voices of Tasmania. We've just published this survey analysis of 756 Tasmanian voices. A striking result is that 97% of respondents do not feel well represented by the current elected members. Only 26% feel "somewhat" represented. No wonder there's an appetite for wholesale change at the coming election on March 23. The report contains more data and many voices identifying what Tasmania could do if we weren't stuck in the party political rut we're in. That's why our association Voices of Tasmania is advocating for Vote Independent to break the deadlock and elect community representatives who listen, respect and cooperate for the public good. OPINION: The Best Defense is a Good Offense "But after this week, Municipalities must maintain their advocacy efforts, keeping the pressure on the provincial government to engage in meaningful dialogue. This involves not only opposing the current bills but also proposing constructive alternatives that address both provincial and municipal concerns. By presenting well-reasoned arguments and viable solutions, municipalities can demonstrate their willingness to collaborate while firmly defending their interests." https://wix.to/umGhMwz #opinion #albertamuni

They are critical for the functioning of a democracy, as they recognise the gap between what should be and what is, and work to bridge this gap using the Constitution as a guide. In this article Vinita Gursahani Singh explores what active citizenship looks like in practice and what it means to take action based on constitutional values and how nonprofits can use constitutional values to cultivate and nurture engaged citizens. From door knocking on over 23,000 homes, I have heard your message loud and clear. The political parties have lost their way and they are no longer serving our interests. To learn more visit: abimcguire.co.uk/manifesto I will introduce a new way of working in Parliament that will mean we can actually achieve things: 1. A new way I will promote a new way that involves respect, listening and healthy debate in Parliament to enable us to reach decisions that best serve our collective society. 2. Diverse political representation I will advocate for diverse political representation in Parliament for a better future. 3. Culture Change in Parliament I will initiate a culture shift in Parliament where we update our practices so we have an environment that is fit for purpose and can actually achieve good things. 4. Cross-Party Working I will encourage cross-party working and collaboration, so we are able to debate healthily without the influence of party politics to make laws that are fit for purpose. 5. A Present MP I promise to be a present MP. I will work in all of the areas in our constituency and continue to develop my relationships with and work alongside parish, town, city and unitary councillors, whichever party they represent. #generalelection2024 #GE2024 #PeopleBeforeParty #vote #voteindependent #independentsday #wells #shepton #cheddar #abi #ukelection #election #yatton #wedmore #pilton #wooky #StandwithAbi #axbridge #Sheptonmallet #uk #viral #ukpolitics #british #new #news #fyp #politics #fy #somerset

OPINION: Welcome to Ontario, Prepare for Municipal Whiplash! The need for structure and consistency from governmental partners is critical for municipalities trying to serve their communities effectively. Yet, 2023 has proven to be a year of uncertainty, with the provincial government causing municipal governments to suffer from a severe case of whiplash. http://wix.to/qUuCb9W #municipality #Municipality #ontariomunicipality #opinion
