This was a talk that could have gone on and on. Everyone in the panel had so much insight on the direction of the future of protein sources and the related issues with regulation and policy. Thanks Maija Itkonen/Onego Bio and Robert E. Jones/Mosa Meat for joining with your knowledge and passion. Despite of some slowness in the European novel food process, the panel agreed that there is a huge 20T USD global market opportunity to be addressed. Many non-European markets are about ready to take on novel foods, and hopefully European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) will be able to speed up the European process to enable a prosperous and safe market of alternative proteins and other novel foods. Also Finland has lot of research around alternative proteins, cellular agriculture and precision fermentation and several very promising startups to execute the research innovation. Thanks for the efforts VTT, University of Helsinki and Natural Resources Institute Finland / Luonnonvarakeskus for bringing in new innovation from various angles. There will be more on this topic, so as they say.... Watch this space! :)
