Communication is key! 🙌 When a position needs filling, hiring manager's are given the responsibility on top of their existing duties. Hiring manager's find it difficult to respond and feedback to every applicant. This may cause damage to a business and effect future hiring. Would that person apply again if the hiring process the first time round was shabby? 🤔 Would they encourage others to apply? Probably not. To avoid your companies name being dragged through the mud, you must ensure that your hiring process is flawless and EVERY applicant is followed up. Successful or not. If corners are being cut then maybe it's worth looking into some external support? Communication is key 💥 #hiring #talentacquisition #executivesearch

It should go both ways. :)

References should be taken with a pinch of salt in my opinion. They can be so subjective. I see candidates rejected due to less than favourable references but then the candidates thrive in another business. There are many variables to a candidate being successful in a role and it's not all down to the candidate.

Hiring managers: How do candidates who apply for positions get experience without being given the opportunity for that experience? It's not a trick question, I'm just generally asking. What advice would you give someone who applies but is missing what you're looking for?

At this time of year, as the holidays come to a close, the recruitment market tends to get a little busier. Sometimes a lot busier. If you're looking to hire into your team, you're not alone... and more roles coming on to the market won't make your task any easier. VMA GROUP have been the leading name in recruitment for comms folk for 45 years, and every month across the business we're speaking to 1000s of communications professionals, from Corporate Affairs Directors to Internal Comms Execs... and everything in between. Some people are *super* keen to move and they're actively applying for roles, but most aren't... The reality is, most people won't be applying to job ads, they won't be knocking on a recruiter's door waving a cv, and they won't be scouring your company website for a new role. They will be heads-down doing their job... This reduces the pool, plus the influx of new roles reduces your share of voice in reaching this pool. That's not ideal. The 'other pool', that larger group of people happily getting on with things in their current role, is of course harder to reach, and harder to engage... but the fact is most people are generally open to opportunities - the right ones - and all it takes is a timely call from an experienced recruiter they know and trust. When I start working with a new client, I need to get under the skin of the company. I need to understand the challenges, the opportunities, the big picture, the small picture, the long term, and the short-term plan amongst many other things. As a guiding principle, I make sure I cover these 5 points at the very start of a new client relationship to ensure I can deliver the top talent, that is the right fit for the role, the team, and the business. 👍 1️⃣ What are the biggest challenges that you are facing in this specific department and how can your next hire elevate your business? 2️⃣ Tell me about the overall business and company. What has changed and why is this position open on your team? 3️⃣ Tell me more about the challenges the successful candidate will face in this role, as well as what makes this role exciting for someone. 4️⃣ I want to know more about your management style. As well as more about the team structure and personalities. 5️⃣ Past the overall job description, what projects will this person be working on? Who will they be interacting with most within the organization? It's a good start and lets me start to form a picture my mind of who the client might be looking for.
