A successful SBC Day: Building a sustainable future together! 🌍🌱   What a fantastic SBC Day we had last Friday! It was inspiring to witness companies learning from each other—asking questions, sharing solutions, and working together to tackle the priority topics for the year ahead during the SBC Day.   Here are some of our key takeaways 👇 ✅ The impact of sustainability is becoming more operational. Companies have a lot of concrete questions that can be quite tactical on how their peers have deployed concepts like living wage in their organizations ✅ Sustainability topics continue to permeate beyond the direct scope of the company and value chain implications are increasingly material ✅ A continuous focus on data management remains crucial to improving sustainability practices, notably when considering the value chain ✅While CSRD has brought its share of fatigue, it is also proving to be a tool for driving change across organizations, from reinforcing sustainability teams and improving data collection processes to increasing focus on material sustainability issues. ✅ This raises an important reflection among sustainability leaders: How can reporting be used as a lever for change management?   The ambition of SBC is to leverage on exchanges between practitioners to set the vision and then translate it into concrete tools. Powering a Sustainable Future: Structured Data for the #CircularEconomy ♻️ The traditional linear economic model of "take, make, dispose" is putting a strain on our planet. The circular economy offers a solution, aiming to keep products and materials in use for as long as possible. 1️⃣ What is a circular economy? ♻️🪙 A circular economy aims to minimize waste and resource use by keeping products and materials in circulation for as long as possible. Quality data is essential for monitoring and optimizing product life cycles.   2️⃣ The benefits of structured data for circular economy 🗃️ → Transparency: Easier access and understanding of product life cycle information. → Compliance: Consistent reporting on life cycle indicators. → Innovation: Development of innovative solutions for recycling, reuse, and remanufacturing.   3️⃣ What needs to happen? 🤔 → Standardization: Standardize data collection and reporting for better supply chain management. → Interoperability: Create a unified and structured data space for seamless data sharing. → Informed Decision-Making: Use structured data to improve resource efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance sustainability. Is measuring 'negative' vs. 'positive' emissions enough? Join TOLSON and NEC - Net Environmental Contribution to explore a new approach to environmental impact assessment! 🌍 To align with the EU Taxonomy and comply with regional and local regulations, companies across the board are measuring and reporting their Carbon Footprint. Yet, increased granularity, complexity, and standardization of climate data requirements is pushing the market to measure beyond the traditional GHG Protocol and Scope 1, 2, and 3 categorization. → Insufficient transparency: The traditional GHG emissions measurement methodologies are binary and incomplete. There is no measurement methodology to evaluate the impact of emission on a granular scale. → Biased measurements: Scope 4 or "avoided emissions" are increasingly considered as an additional tool to better measure a company's impact, but simply avoiding doesn't entail creating positive impact. → Alternative holistic approach: Net impact can be defined as the net sum of all types of costs (i.e. negative impacts) and benefits (i.e. positive impacts) created by a company, including externalities.
