7 learnings after watching 36 football games in the last 11 days. 7. Live action is the priority of the 11 directors at the Euro and Copa America. 6. Aerial coverage and cable cams make a difference in these 2 tournaments. 5. A great camera 1 operator is the basis for any world class coverage. 4. Resources are crucial but people to use them correctly, even more. 3. Tight shots, and slow motion replays tell the emotion of the games. 2. Fans reactions are as important as the action in the field of play. 1. Technology without storytelling is useless. Dear NFL - you need to fix this sooner rather than later... Referees are going to be your downfall. People want to watch football, not flags, and replays, and conferences, and guys looking at a tiny monitor, and annoucements. Yes, there needs to be rules enforcement, but why do you need to put the refs on TV? Flag...TV/stadium announcer or graphic says 'Holding on 75'...on to the next play. Why do I need the ref to tell me this info? If I'm a broadcaster I'm telling my producer to stop showing the refs - I pay my talent millions, have the most valuable TV property in the U.S., and I spend 20% of the broadcast showing people no one wants to see. Tennis has it right, automatic line calls have made the product infinitely better and guess what, no one misses players whining to the official about someone making a bad call. The NBA and NFL have gone the other way, giving the refs and replay officials more airtime only makes them want - you guessed it - even more airtime. Human nature, reality TV, and professional wrestling prove this, once you make someone a character in an event, they think they should be a bigger character in that event. So, WT Faulk do we do? Cut them off now, use their audio call if you need it, but use the technology we have to reduce their role, let the players and game be the product and the refs will go back to being a minor inconvenience rather than a constant burden. #NFL #TV #TVSports #Referee #Sports #Replay #Ratings #Football #Broadcasting
