I have opened a board of candidates who are looking for new roles, because of the unfortunate layoffs and job movements happening in the XR market. If you need project managers, XR devs, or sales leads, then consider taking a look. Or if you need a little help, fill the form in the page and I can put you up.

I tell my students all the time that jobs in XR are growing. But, so far it seems companies are struggling to advertise them. I’ve seen XR dev positions labeled as anything from Data Scientist to requiring 5 years experience in tech that’s only existed for 2. And many companies build small XR teams internally and barely post a job publicly.
At the moment, XR dev careers require a bit of networking and an impressive portfolio to stand out. But the opportunities are there!
Most XR companies are small operations with little to no funding though. We’re still early days!

Recently there has been a massive layoff and a lot of people ask me for career advice. Here are some tips for you:
💡 Ask yourself what you are passionate about, and go for it.
💡 Share your work on social media (LinkedIn) daily.
💡 Help people/others succeed - endorse others or help others achieve their goals.
💡 Find the industries that are growing, and combine them with your strengths.
💡 Work on something that requires face-to-face, human touch. If your job is sitting in front of the computer for a long time without human interaction, chances will be automated quickly. For example, healthcare, kids' education, and more might need your skills.
💡 Learn code and create your unique IP - Own your entity is important in this digital age.
💡 When reaching out to people you don't know on LinkedIn, "give" first before "asking for help".
💡 "Speak" or "Host" a community/events that benefits others - people won't know each participant in the event but always know who is the host and speakers.
💡 Do things that are 10 times bigger than yourself (current goal). This forces you to collaborate with others and do a better job than you do on your own.
💡The best way to position yourself as an expert is to write a book, host events, speak for events, and teach!
💡Reposition yourself if your current industry is over-competitive such as UX designers, developers, and games. Combine with your interests, and hobbies, or work with subject matter experts to solve the actual problems.

I see the current mass layoffs in the tech industry being deeply concerning, especially for the folks affected… but not unexpected. After all, the industry is undergoing a shift.
I personally think it’s an ethical responsibility of employers to contribute to the smoother transition for laid-off workers, whether that’s through career guidance, or severance packages. Community also plays a role in supporting our affected colleagues - whether that’s through networking, knowledge sharing, or initiatives like mentorship programs and hackathons to support laid-off devs seeking new roles.
Whilst it’s not an ethical requirement for employers to help build up the skills of their devs to equip them to stay relevant in an ever changing landscape, I personally see the benefit for employers to do this. Employers with a future-proofed workforce are better equipped to adapt to new tech and market demands, ensuring long-term success.
BEER Labs began as a vehicle to empower aspiring devs to become impactful tech contributors. Upskilling our Brewmasters with hands-on experience on industry projects fosters their capabilities to develop more elegant and effective solutions to complex challenges in deeper ways than textbook knowledge. This will ultimately equip them with skills to pivot within the industry.
With the global VR market size projected to increase to >22 billion USD by 2025 [Source 1], there’s potential for developers to transition into this segment.
Curious to hear what your thoughts are on growing niches that folks can move their careers towards?

Hey there! First things first - we are #hiring , so if you for one or another reason are looking for a new job, you may want to take a look at this post 👇
Red Rover Interactive has a mission: to transform multiplayer gaming by unlocking the full potential of social interactions. In other words - engage the players by allowing **them** to create the narrative and social drama. That's what #projectcoltrane is all about: players wake up aboard a massive train roaming a post-apocalyptic earth - if they want to survive, they are forced to make alliances and sometimes betray them in a race to breach the engine.
We are also set out to do things a bit differently: we want a product that is fun for the players, and as such we are committed to involve them every step of the way. Our first employees started only 9 months ago, and after only 5 months we already had our first external playtest with actual players from the target groups we are aiming to for. Now, we have something that is fun. Yes, it is still a prototype, but soon it will be so much more!
By the end of 2023, we invited a bunch of the biggest streamers in the survival space to play our game in our first ever Conductor Games. The result was an incredibly fun experience for both devs and players, and a lot of useful feedback! In fact, it went so well that we have decided to do it again, with everyone in the community (see video below).
As of now, we have an early prototype that is streamable and competitive and can be played for hours on end. We do need more people going into production though, and not just anyone: we need people who aren't afraid to be bold and who can come up with innovative solutions, and we need people who are ready to jump on the MVP wagon and who are tired of long and slow development cycles.
For now, we need an #animator to own our animation pipeline - someone hands on, creative, and technical - and we need a Combat #designer to create engaging moment-to-moment gameplay. If that sounds like you, you can send me a DM or you can apply through our website.
If you know someone or think you may have someone in your network that matches the profile, we would definitely appreciate the likes, tags, and re-posts.
Soon, we expect to have many more open positions, so follow our LinkedIn page (or my profile) to get the updates!

Well, it's been about a month of applying, learning and networking, but in this job market, it's hard to get a bite. At this point, I keep thinking that I set myself up for failure since the beginning of my dev career.
I chose to specialize in VR/AR/XR with Unity about 6+ years ago, and at the time, made perfect sense! Immersive tech was beginning to grow, Unity was pushing for VR and AR devs, Niantic, Inc.'s Pokemon Go introduced AR to millions of fans, Facebook became Meta....everything seemed to be lining up! So I dove in head first, switched careers, learned as much as I could, and was able to find jobs creating what I loved!
Then came the slump. Hardware wasn't selling, interest waned and companies started gutting immersive divisions since the ROI wasn't there. Not enough short term gains to justify the research (in my opinion, I'm not in the meetings). Now here I am, a developer with specialization in a section of the tech industry that feels forgotten. But who am I to complain? I could be worse off.
What I really hope to get from this post is some advice, and that's why I'm reaching out to my LinkedIn community ❤️ How can I continue doing what I love when no one's hiring?
Love you all,
Cameron Jensen

Getting real close to being done with this one, still have that whole roof to fill, solidify my AI, add in the surround open world and of course make it a little more pleasing to the eyes!
Slowly but surely getting this out the door while I am still deep in my job hunt.
PSA to hiring studios: You probably still need non-senior, non-lead devs to make games and it's not uncommon to have one or less launched titles when you're 3+ years into your career, but that is still valid experience! FYI to whom it may concern ;)

Join us every Saturday for the new series of #XRealityPro speaker LinkedIn Live events featuring "Bridge the Gap - Create XR products that people want" interviews. Our goal is to help XR creators and the audience (20,000+ reach) learn about opportunities in different industries from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
💡 If you know someone (or yourself) who is an expert in helping #XR creators bridge the gap, feel free to leave comments below.
Recent massive layoffs make me rethink the term "Job" - Maybe it's not a passive term that requires someone to give it to you, but something you can create on your own.
As XR creators, it's easy to jump into creating another game. However, the fact is that over 95% of games don't make money. While we don't do things solely for money, paying bills is a necessity. The key is finding the right niche that aligns with your passion, skills, and people's needs.
With the incredible skills that #XR#Spatial Creators possess, how can we use our talents to create something that improves people's lives? In our new series, we'll be interviewing SMEs from various fields to discuss the problems they face and how #SpatialDesign#XR creators can bridge the gap.
Join us for this exciting new series (which starts in March) and learn how you can create your opportunities in the XR industry.
