⚒️ The Floating Marble Shelf: Thoughtful Planning for a Seamless Finish ⚒️ The construction of the floating marble shelf required meticulous foresight. Supported by seven custom-fabricated metal L brackets, each one securely bolted to the solid wall. These brackets were strategically concealed behind the marble and plaster, creating a clean, seamless appearance. To achieve this hidden support system, precise planning was essential. We needed to ensure that the brackets were fabricated and installed on-site well in advance, before the plastering and waterproofing stages commenced. This foresight allowed the design to maintain its minimalist aesthetic while preserving the functionality and strength of the shelf. The Nook from Chelsea Townhouse ⚒️ This cozy nook is nestled within the large open-plan kitchen and snug area located in the basement. It cleverly prevents the house from having an awkward central walkway between the kitchen and snug, creating a more intimate and functional space. The curved wall in this area is definitely my favorite feature. The time and effort it took to perfect this small detail were incredible: 1. Achieving a smooth curve required multiple visits from our making-good contractor to get it just right. 2. Seamlessly integrating the curved plaster skirting with the timber skirting took a lot of patience, precision, and endless sanding. Here are just a few insights from my time on the job: Nr 1: Invest in High-Quality Materials The foundation of any great bathroom is the materials you choose. Marble, like the one featured here, provides a striking, timeless look. Its intricate veining adds visual interest and sophistication. Take the time to visit marble factories, explore showrooms, or even make a trip to Italy to handpick your stone! Nr 2: Thoughtful Fixtures Fixtures are the finishing touch that ties everything together. Invest serious time and care into selecting these—request samples and review their maintenance needs. In this bathroom, brass accents add warmth and elegance that complement the marble perfectly. Don’t forget, all elements—towel rails, taps, and showerheads—should coordinate seamlessly. Nr 3: Details & Details It’s the little things that count. Every component should interact harmoniously. Consider: 1. How does the plasterboard meet the marble? 2. How will the shower screen fix into the shower? 3. What will the join thickness be? 4. Match grout and silicone to finishes. 5. What materials should the floor and walls be to ensure watertightness? Nr 4: Smart Storage To keep your bathroom sleek and clutter-free, integrate built-in storage solutions. For instance, this mirror cabinet is recessed into the wall, creating a streamlined look while maintaining practicality. Nr 5: Lighting and Ambience Lighting is key in transforming your bathroom. We minimize the use of downlighters and prefer warm outputs where we do use them. Layer that with wall lights and hidden LED niche lighting, activated by silent PIRs for a truly luxurious feel. What's your favorite detail? 🔨 This photo captures several areas where I put in significant effort to achieve an exceptional finish. My personal favorite is the shaker panel beneath the window—a small but impactful touch that adds both care and character to the home. This detail is part of the original structure, which we carefully removed and rebuilt. The old panel was rotted, and the brickwork behind it was, let's just say, "full of holes."
