Minor rear end hit on a 2020 Ford Edge, and the average Joe would think this is repairable damage. This frame rail is made of 800 MPa High Strength Steel and Ford says you can NOT cold straighten anything over 700 MPa meaning this frame rail MUST be replaced in order to correctly and safely repair this vehicle. There are a lot of sacrificial parts that must be replaced in order to get to all of the welds on this rail because it tucks up between the inner rocker and rear floor pan with welds holding all 3 pieces together. This “minor” hit has caused this vehicle to be a total loss. Be sure whatever shop you are taking your vehicle to after a collision is pulling OEM procedures for your repairs so you can be more confident your car is repaired correctly and safely.
