"The #hydrogen train is picking up speed - and we've been on it for a long time." Our Head of Development Uwe Wolfarth recognised the potential of this technology early on. He has been driving the development of hydrogen-compatible #fasteningelements at ARNOLD UMFORMTECHNIK GmbH & Co. KG for eight years - and was ahead of many others in doing so. It's becoming clear that #fuel cell drives will play a significant role in #mobility in the future. BMW will put the first series-produced car on the road in 2028. A refuelling time of 3 minutes for a range of 650 km speaks for itself. The challenge lies in the industrialisation of the manufacturing processes and the associated reduction in manufacturing costs, as the technology is mature. What is still missing is the energy source #hydrogen at affordable prices and in sufficient quantities. Last week, we had a very encouraging event in Dörzbach with the hydrogen coordinator in the Stuttgart metropolitan region, District Administrator Norbert Heuser. ConScience is proud to embark on a joint project with Chalmers University of Technology and Volvo Cars, funded by the Swedish Energy Agency under the “Department for Research and Business Development” program (P2023-00144). This ambitious four-year project focuses on developing MXene-based #piezoresistive sensors for advanced #battery monitoring in #electricvehicles. Our role at ConScience is to transform the cutting-edge MXene technology developed by Chalmers into a commercially viable process for standardized sensor production. If successful, this innovation will enable affordable, high-sensitivity real-time battery monitoring, offering early detection of potential cell failures within a battery pack. This breakthrough would significantly enhance the safety and reliability of electric vehicles, contributing to a sustainable and secure transportation future. Gothenburg is a hub for innovation and at the forefront of sustainable industry. Now a battery cluster is taking shape, characterised by something that has served the region well: collaboration. Volvo Cars and the Volvo Group are the engine for the new industry in Gothenburg and West Sweden. But the cluster consists of many companies and stakeholders. PowerCell Group, whose technology converts hydrogen into electricity using fuel cells, is one example. Its solutions are used in the aviation and maritime industries, as well as in cars, trucks, trains and construction machinery. Another player is SEEL Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory, a large testbed for electromobility. It also helps stimulate collaboration between industry and academia, which can help accelerate the development of electrified transport. The event was a day of networking and knowledge exchange, with a clear focus on the rapidly advancing electrification. Dina Dedic, Matilda Lindström, and Peter Alberius from RISE Research Institutes of Sweden participated in the discussions. Dina Dedic shared her insights: “The range for EVs is a challenge with many possible solutions. On Mobility Day, several of these solutions were discussed – from new cell chemistry and pack optimization to BMS. Also of interest are new systems for charging and/or battery changes.
