🖐️ 🏢 How to renovate old office buildings? The architects from the MVRDV design office definitely showed how to do it the right way by designing the renovation of Atelier Gardens Haus 1 in Berlin. Instead of demolishing the old building, it was decided to reuse its potential, which is in line with sustainable development. First of all, the building was made more ecological by planting plants on the roof and terrace. The building also has systems for collecting rainwater, which is later used to flush toilets. Additionally, the spaces have been designed in a user-friendly way: special relaxation zones have been added on the stairs leading to the roof, from which there is a view of Berlin. Interested? 🟡 How can you turn an outdated office building into an architectural marvel? First of all, in today's world striving for sustainable development, it is important to understand that it is worth reusing old buildings and transforming them into comfortable spaces for users. Ill-considered demolition of buildings and replacing them with new ones is slowly becoming a thing of the past. With this idea in mind, designers from the MVRDV office redesigned Atelier Gardens Haus 1 in Berlin. What changed? 👉 The building has a new yellow façade, which is intended to fill users with optimism. 👉 An ecological roof was designed with rest areas, plants, and a panoramic view of Berlin. 👉 Ecological LED lighting was installed throughout the building. 👉 The building is equipped with rainwater collection systems, which are used for flushing toilets. If you want to learn more about this interesting project, I encourage you to read the article 👇 #Berlin #architecture #design #yellow #office

More Zuidas Buildings Zuidas is becoming a designer's paradise. Just across steps from Rafael Viñoly Architects's Mahler 4 office tower and MVRDV's new Valley multi-family residential, 3XN/GXN has designed this beautiful 15-story office tower. Sustainability is built into the design. Built principally with mass timber, each of the lower floors opens out onto large decks with blossoming flowers to increase pollinators. The upper floors include portable elements to enable tenants to alter their spaces easily without major tenant improvements. This really should be the standard for urban architecture. The transformation of Zuidas from a nascent business district in the 1980s to a vibrant architectural marvel today is truly remarkable. Once envisioned as the financial heart of Amsterdam, Zuidas has fully blossomed into a dynamic urban landscape, seamlessly blending cutting-edge design with functional elegance. This district now stands as a testament to visionary planning and architectural innovation, embodying the spirit of progress and modernity. The skyline, adorned with impressive structures, not only enhances the city's aesthetic but also reinforces its status as a global hub for business and culture. Zuidas is a shining example of how thoughtful development can create spaces that inspire and thrive. https://loom.ly/VXQ0PaY #architecture #design #construction #sustainability

Bureaux Andrew Phillips recently completed Concept designs for the 30,000sqm HQ of an international corporation at Cloche d’Or. It has been an opportunity to re-evaluate the ambitions of the contemporary workplace and test our guiding principles in this arena ('Esprit de Corps', 'Sante', 'Hospitalite' and 'Prudence'). Avoiding unnecessary height, the architectural massing and building footprints actually maximise contiguous area on each level. At each floor, four ‘wings’ expand outwards to reach the urban edges of the site, while embracing generous green courtyards close to the centre of the building. The star-shaped plan provides a multitude of ‘corners’ that generate scaled territories within the floorplate and allow a layering of communities and team identity. As the building rises, the floorplates recede and the resultant massing presents the sense of a campus of scaled and accessible buildings. Loggias and roof terraces provide exterior venues and an abundance of shared amenities to be explored – a landscape of beautiful hanging gardens within the city. The street-side ‘universal foyer’, provides intensely social and hospitable spaces overlooking a verdant park landscape. As well as a welcoming reception, guest touch-down spaces, informal meeting areas, a major flexible event space, conference facilities, a logistics centre and brasserie facilities overlooking garden terraces to the southwest. The building’s structural system is hybrid, consisting of both low-carbon pre-cast concrete, steel and timber elements in an optimised and prudent combination. Internal materials – wood, stone and other natural fibres reveal the quality of their craftmanship. The external architecture is characterised by a distinctive, re-cycled aluminium brise soleil screen that wraps continuous loggia balconies shading the thermal façade while allowing panoramic views and universal access to the outside and fresh air. The building presents as open, permeable and porous, embracing health and nature – sunlight, shade, and fresh air.

In Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine, Seine-Sant-Denis, île-de-France, Métropole du Grand Paris, France, dimitri roussel’s design studio’s commercial project for the Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024. Stunningly clad in terracotta tiles, the Mass Timber project, utilizes double story cutouts for terraces connecting the interior spaces with the surrounding urban fabric. Acting as a mixed-use building for the Olympics, it will be converted to a commercial office building after the Olympic Games, ensuring that it has a substantial lifecycle. Exterior staircases, large gathering areas indoors, a rooftop performance space, and first floor dining, promote a sense of community within the building. To be a truly sustainable project, a multitude of different considerations need to be taken into account. This project will be a phenomenal sustainable addition to the urban fabric of Paris. Hopefully this development will become an inspiration for more urban developers to adopt socially and environmentally responsible building designs in the future.
