INSTRUCTING FENCING CLASSES Fencing has traditionally been taught on a private, individual basis. This remains relatively unchanged. For top-level fencing instruction there is nothing that equals the individual lesson. This one-to-one interaction is far superior to any form of class instruction. This does not mean that quality fencing cannot be taught, particularly at the introductory stages, in small groups and classes. Quite the contrary, class instruction is better suited to learning the fundamental fencing concepts, and it is far more enjoyable to learn in a group while having fun playing games. En Garde! FENCING Secondary School Physical Education provides the guidelines for the inplementation of a Sport (fencing) Education Policy, covering; Safety Rules, Precautions, Equipment and Pedagogy and including; Standard Operating Procedures, Risk Assessment, Lesson Plans and Assessment Criteria. The Teacher/Instructor still has the additional task of presenting the syllabus, taking into account the psychological make-up and motivational drives of the students, the factors controlling their interest and enthusiasm, and how they learn individually and as a group. A few thoughts on bat speed training. I work with players at all levels, from MLB All-Stars to High School prospects, and every level inbetween. The chase for more power & bat speed is something that players have always been in search of. The problem is, in doing so, you can lose your feel for Hititng. One of my clients, an MLB Player, went in search of more bat speed and went through a very popular program, and now, is lost. Sad to me. Keep working on your craft. Chase body control. Chase zone control. Chase efficent movemnts.

Education goalkeepers to top level Difficult, complex or do we make it complex and difficult. Why do we compare youth goalkeepers with professionals. What do we expect from a goalkeeper these days, well we expect a lot. To educate goalkeepers to top level you need to create all kinds of skills to reach professional level. But the question is do we need to give them age related education or can we threat them all the same because a lot of times we also judge them the same way. Why only $20/hour?!?! When I used to run a store front location martial arts studio, I would charge $150/hour for individual private lessons and up to $3000/day for organizations. When I decided to change my teaching practice from offering group lessons to ONLY offering personalized lessons I dropped this rate significantly to $20/hr. The change was for 2 reasons. First, if someone does decide they want to learn from me there is no other option. In the past I offered both group lessons and private lessons, but now the opportunity for group lessons doesn't exist. Secondly, I don't make my living off teaching anymore. My goal is to spread the arts, and, in particular, the positive benefits that martial arts can have in your life. I want everyone to be able to afford it and experience it!
