Have you ever wondered why medical providers often overlook asking about your current stress levels or past trauma during appointments? This is a crucial consideration, given the profound impact that stress and trauma can have on both physical and mental health. 🧠💔 Despite the well-established mind-body connection, many medical providers still fail to inquire about these essential aspects of a patient's history. 📉 By overlooking the role of stress and trauma in health, providers may miss valuable opportunities to understand the root causes of their patients' symptoms fully. Integrating questions about stress and trauma into medical assessments can offer vital insights into patients' overall well-being and guide more personalized treatment approaches. 🌱 It's time to spark a conversation about the importance of addressing the mind-body connection in healthcare. Follow @dc.metro.therapy for more content on health and the mind-body connection. #HealthCare #MentalHealth #MindBodyConnection #HolisticHealth #Stress #Trauma

Have you ever been dismissed by doctors and told what you're experiencing is probably psychosomatic? If you're a woman or AFAB, you likely have. I've been living for years with numerous health problems that sometimes result in debilitating symptoms. But all basic tests would always come out more or less okay. So, doctor after doctor would tell me it must be "all in my head". Perhaps a visit to a psychiatrist would be in order? And I would believe them - or rather, I'd squash my intuition telling me they were wrong. But still, doubt remained: If that were so, wouldn't I feel better after working so hard in therapy for years? Instead, the older I get, the worse the symptoms are. And here we are now: after I had another bad flare-up a few weeks ago, I hauled myself to a doctor once again. And this time, all that advocating for myself worked. Turns out it's not psychosomatic after all. So I've spent the last month and a half getting all kinds of tests, and I'm closer to getting a proper diagnosis and treatment than ever before. It's exhausting but hopefully worth it. I'm interested: Have you had similar experiences? #womenshealth #health #medicalcare #gaslighting #healthcare ----- I may be touring all those doctors, but I'm still here if you need well-researched, engaging and accessible health content! Care-experienced people often face significant healthcare challenges, leading to poorer health outcomes. In my experience I've been consistently effected by.. 🔵Stigma and Assumptions - Biases leading to dismissal of symptoms and inadequate care. ⚪️Lack of Trauma-Informed Care - Trauma histories are overlooked 🔵Poor Continuity of Care - Frequent changes which result in gaps in medical history and treatment. (Trust is often broken due to causing neglect) ⚪️Mental Health Stigma - Higher rates of anxiety, depression, and PTSD are often misunderstood, untreated or laughed at. 🔵Systemic Barriers - Socioeconomic disadvantages and discrimination limit access to necessary healthcare. Addressing these biases is crucial to improving health outcomes for care experienced people.. MYSELF included!!! #HealthcareEquity #CareExperienced Adrian Huxley Frédérique Lambrakis-Haddad Jane Keenan 🎥 The video demonstrates the need for change and a solution through training, as a step toward chance for this.

We are often asked how to define and measure a continuum of care. As we start to think differently about the full eco-system and reduce fragmentation from prevention and the community from treatment, thinking differently about the continuum is key. Join us for a webinar series to hear how HMA is thinking about this transition.
Join us March 14, at 12pm ET for part 2 of our 5-part webinar series, “Substance Use Disorder Ecosystem of Care: Pivoting to Save Lives.” This session offers a look at the services and support that comprise a system of care for people who are not yet in treatment. These services are often community-based and involve outreach, engagement, and meeting people where they are. As people enter treatment, experience relapse, or choose to move through different treatment modalities, health promotion and harm reduction can serve as a safety net to keep people continuously engaged. Psychologist || Building THE CSHAPED NETWORK for sickle cell disease awareness, warriors empowerment, and to support caregivers || UNDP-NJFP Fellow ‘23/24 || UN-SDG 3 Advocate || Data Annotator (AI Ops)
I presented a webinar to a sickle cell support group of about 400 individuals. Topic: "𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙨𝙮𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙘 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙡𝙚 𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨.” I’m excited to share some key insights from our discussion. ♻ Despite the physical challenges faced by sickle cell individuals, mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety, can have a profound impact and take a toll on emotional well-being. ♻ We also explored the barriers that prevent sickle cell patients from accessing mental health support, including stigmatisation and limited access to services. ♻ Another important aspect we discussed was how economic challenges negatively affect mental health issues. Financial strain, lack of insurance, and unemployment can all contribute to stress, anxiety, and depression among sickle cell patients. In conclusion, I left the attendees with key points to note: 👉Taking care of your mental health is just as important as your physical health. 👉 It’s okay to seek help and support when you need it. Do not live in isolation. 👉Work closely/cooperate with your healthcare providers. Thank you to CrimsonBow Sickle Cell Initiative for the opportunity. I look forward to continuing the conversation and positively impacting the sickle cell community. #SickleCellAwareness #MentalHealthSupport #HealthEquity #Advocacy

🌟 Important Update for Primary Care Providers 🌟 To address the growing demand for mental health services, Wolters Kluwer has introduced "Rx Transitions for Mental Health." With 72% of the U.S. population living in areas with a shortage of mental health professionals, primary care providers (PCPs) are often on the front lines. In fact, PCPs write 79% of prescriptions for antidepressants. This new tool offers detailed support for managing antidepressant transitions, ensuring safer and more personalized care for patients. Dr. Peter Bonis, Chief Medical Officer at Wolters Kluwer Health, highlights the importance of equipping PCPs with evidence-based tools to navigate the mental health crisis effectively. #MentalHealth #PrimaryCare #HealthcareInnovation #WoltersKluwer #UpToDatePro #HealthcareTools https://lnkd.in/enpu_rBw

It is hard to believe that it is now 6 years since my friend, classmate, roommate from medical school succumbed to suicide 🥲 The incidence of physician suicide in the U.S. is notably higher than in the general population. Some data suggest suicide among male physicians is estimated to be 1.4 times higher and among female physicians 2.3 times higher compared to the general population. Approximately 300 to 400 physicians die by suicide each year in the U.S. That is about one per day to put things in perspective. Contributing factors include high levels of stress, burnout, mental health stigma within the medical community, and the demanding nature of the profession. Efforts are ongoing to address this critical issue but we have a long way to go. #burnout #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #suicide #suicideprevention #physiciansuicide #breakthestigma
