Future Earth's Ten New Insights in Climate Science makes for sobering reading: 1. Overshooting 1.5°C is fast becoming inevitable. Minimising the magnitude and duration of overshoot is essential. 2. A rapid and managed fossil fuel phase-out is required to stay within the Paris Agreement target range. 3. Robust policies are critical to attain the scale needed for effective carbon dioxide removal. 4. Over-reliance on natural carbon sinks is a risky strategy: their future contribution is uncertain. 5. Joint governance is necessary to address the interlinked climate and biodiversity emergencies. 6. Compound events amplify climate risks and increase their uncertainty. 7. Mountain glacier loss is accelerating. 8. Human immobility in areas exposed to climate risks is increasing. 9. New tools to operationalise justice enable more effective climate adaptation. 10. Virtual Conference | Climate Obstruction Across Europe 📅 Wednesday, May 22, 2024 - Friday, May 24, 2024 🥀 The effort to address climate change has been inadequate, in spite of decades of work and growing certainty on the science, technology, and policy solutions. 🏦 A key reason is the lack of understanding of organizations obstructing climate action. 🇪🇺 This year’s Climate Social Science Network conference features eleven national studies of climate obstruction across Europe and a study of influence in Brussels, as we launch the first comprehensive volume of climate obstruction in the region. 👩🎓 Authors from the book’s chapters will boil down their core findings, revealing actors and the strategies and discourses they use delay and block action in Europe. Tipping points in climate change are critical thresholds where small environmental changes lead to big, often irreversible shifts. They trigger positive feedback loops, like melting ice leading to more warming. These events have global impacts, disrupting vital systems like ocean currents and weather patterns, risking food shortages and extreme weather. As multiple tipping points approach, the risk of a planetary crisis grows. Preventing this requires urgent action to cut emissions and protect vulnerable areas. #ClimateChange

This very clearly explains the climate crisis and linked knock on effects. Even to myself who is immersed in this every day it is shocking. Why doesn’t this data and evidence shock politicians and make them take faster and more impactful action? Is it that our Governments are financed by the fossil fuel industry, driven by global trade with huge carbon footprint and increasing GDPR? We must use the next election to vote for the planet.

finance needs to take a proactive role in reversing the climate change narrative. Capital urgebtly needs to be redirected from activities harmful to climate and environment (both immediate and chronic harm) to activities that have positive impact on enviroment. there is merit in businesses in emerging markets taking steps to align their operations to reduce and ultimately eliminate negative environmental and social impacts. this is because in future finance (debt or equity) will be premised on positive E and S impact. the smart companies will start preparing themselves for this NOW and not react later ...

This is for all who are still questioning that we should do not only something somewhen against global warming but do all we can and do it NOW. It is NOT only climate change, it is the threat if MASS EXTINCTION. Moneywise we might „only” loose 18% of our WORLD GDP every year as Swiss Re estimates and what can be reduced to losing just 4% if we stick to the Paris agreement. This estimation does not count the many lives we will loose and the tragedy for about 2 billion people in the most threatened geographies. Not only the no-brainers and related political parties are ignoring this. Nowadays, conservative parties in the “middle” of the political spectrum follow suit. It is also YOUR decision - lets go under or help to save our planet and our lives!

After a period of 8 weeks, studying with the Oxford Climate Society's School of Climate Hilary 2024, we focused on the following vital areas: - Climate Change and the Biosphere - Climate Change, The Science and IPCC - Climate Change in the Courts - Panel Debate: Techno-Optimism vs Radical Change - Indigenous Ontologies and Human Nature Relations - Climate Action from above and Below - Transport, Climate Change and Mobility Justice - The Economics of Climate Policies I was awarded with a certificate in the end. I greatly appreciate the time and the strengthening of climate knowledge and understanding.

A large-scale international study (63 countries) in which I took part, examined 11 behavioral interventions to increase public awarness of climate change, enhance support for climate change mitigating policies, and take action.
