My favorite quote from the article "They’re going to seek an opportunity where there’s upward mobility at some other company.” They should and so should you. When my clients stay longer than they should any seat, I refer to this is "commitment issues." It isn't uncommon to do the work, wait for the recognition and believe compensation is coming. This is why you must, I repeat must have clarity during the initial promotion conversation which includes: criteria for getting promoted, the timeline based on your existing performance and of course pay. Company culture reflects who they are as well as who and what they value. My advice to you is make sure you know your value. #PowHerMoves #ContraryToCulture

Working in the field of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is challenging, especially at this time where DEI is misunderstood, and often viewed unfavorably. Setting goals that are effective for your organization can be challenging - and - showing evidence of the impact of these goals even more so. The January 18 program at Workforce Diversity Network “Effective DEI Goal-Setting” creates a safe educational and networking setting to help practitioners and leaders begin thinking about these issues, and explore these challenges. Let's keep the conversations going!

There's a lot of talk about recruiting processes and candidate experiences today, and that's a good thing. Recruiters, TA professionals, hiring managers, executives, etc. should constantly be evaluating them as they can provide a huge competitive advantage (or disadvantage). If you're not already prioritizing transparency and a little personal touch in the recruiting process, I'd encourage you to do so for the sake of your organization and your candidates!

Betty Comden, born Basya Cohen, never quite felt comfortable in her own skin. She changed her name several times throughout her life, finally settling on Betty Comden. When asked about her decision, she once said, "And how would it sound: 'by Basya Astershinsky and Adolph Green?’” While intended to be humorous, her quote highlights the internalized anti-Semitism that still affects how people pitch themselves to Hollywood and on job applications today. It's still common to change one's name to be less Jewish, less Black, less Asian, etc. — all for a better chance of success. Do you think it makes a difference in 2024?
