I found writing a slog last year. I just couldn’t get into it. I decided I would try something new this year. So,I launched my podcast this week, with three episodes available off the bat. But, here’s the thing. I tightly script each episode (at least for now). I quickly realised that with a bit of extra effort, I can turn these scripts into full articles – for people who prefer to read. And ironically, they are better than anything I wrote last year. Here are the first three episodes in a readable format: What started my journey with foundational health habits? https://lnkd.in/eQ5vQmmu What are the eight foundational health habits? https://lnkd.in/ejs63U33 2024: Tripling down on building my eight foundational health habits https://lnkd.in/eJt_ed_Q

Another great listen. A significant amount of our health care dollars go to supporting administrative costs that add little to no clinical value. I love this highlight from the podcast authored by Stacey Richter. Here are but a few of the reasons, potentially, why the healthcare industry doesn’t get together to reduce administrative burden in some of the ways that Dr. Scheinker talks about. 1. Some organizations actually make a lot of money off of that transactional waste. As but one example—and not to just pick on one, but we don’t have all day—how about some RCM (revenue cycle management) companies who may or may not be owned by the same vertically integrated stacks as the payers themselves? As I have said any number of times, one person’s—or potentially an entire country’s, as the case may be—one party’s waste, is somebody else’s honeypot; and I am not sure if this is any exception. 2. Legacy technology and data systems and all the sunk costs therein 3. As Kaye Davis and Katrina Hubbard reminded me about the other day, there are some serious regulations in healthcare due to everybody being a vendor of CMS that adds a layer of regulatory complication to many collaborations. Also, state laws sometimes have an unintended side effect of making it tough to collaborate. Consider this quote from the Commonwealth Fund: "A 2021 study by McKinsey estimates hospital administrative costs at $250 billion and clinical services administrative costs at $205 billion, representing 21 percent and 27 percent respectively of 2019 NHE spending in these settings.Oct 4, 2023" Stacey RichterJeffrey HoganShawn GremmingerScott Conard, MDGe BaiChris DeaconDan BurkeAl Lewis 🇺🇦
I’m gonna encore this episode with David Scheinker, PhD, for several reasons; but here’s a big one: Why are we as an industry not doing what David Scheinker suggests in this episode? Why are we not doing, I don’t know, kinds of logical things to reduce admin burden in this country when everyone agrees admin burden is a problem? Also mentioned in this #healthcarepodcast: David Scheinker, PhD; Abby Burns; Michael Leavitt; Steve Schutzer, MD; Peter Hayes; Marshall Allen; William Shrank, MD; Kaye Davis, MPH; Katrina Hubbard; Dan O'Neill; Barak Richman, PhD, JD; Arnold Milstein, MD, MPH; Kevin Schulman, MD, MBA Click to read the full article on the RHV Web site and listen to the #healthcarepodcast w/Stacey Richter: https://lnkd.in/grMq4nbV

The man featured on this podcast about texting in healthcare - which is hosted by the esteemed and sage Eric Silverman - is a widely revered thought leader who also happens to need to learn how to stand still and speak a little slower while doing video podcasts. I think you should watch all 49 minutes. (PS: The words 'widely', 'revered', 'thought' and 'leader' are open to some interpretation.) #healthbenefits #humanresources #healthcare #podcast #rockstarsrocking BenefitsPRO
