Today marks World Homeless Day, first observed on October 10, 2010. This day unites activists and communities to raise awareness about homelessness and advocate for safe, clean housing for all. With around 150 million people affected globally—nearly 2% of the population—it's crucial to address the deeper issues of affordable housing, unemployment, and domestic violence. Let’s come together to understand and reduce homelessness, supporting those in need. Here’s how you can make a difference: Volunteer: Share your time with organizations like Habitat for Humanity or your local soup kitchen to help those in need. Host a Fundraiser: Organize an event to raise funds for the homeless in your community, or donate to a charity dedicated to this cause. Happy #InternationalYouthDay! 🎉 Today, we celebrate our young people's strength, resilience, and creativity. But also bring to light the severity of youth homelessness. As of 2022/2023... ➡️ 135,800 16-24-year-olds were homeless or at risk of homelessness in the UK ➡️ 1 in 52 young people are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the UK ➡️ 67% of cases of homelessness in England were not successfully prevented or dealt with ➡️ this is a 5% increase from the previous year ➡️ 54% of these cases were as a result of family or friends no longer being willing or able to accommodate ➡️ 11% of these cases were as a result of domestic abuse Every day, alongside loads of other incredible charities, organisations and people, we are fighting to put an end to homelessness once and for all. That's why we need you.. our investors, partners and champions! So, to all the youth out there: keep shining bright and never stop dreaming!

Refuge hopping and sleeping under bridges: One in 10 teens polled faced homelessness last year. In short:One in 10 young people who responded to Mission Australia's 2023 Youth Survey faced homelessness in the past year. Rates of homelessness among teenagers have persisted since 2017, with the issue becoming more challenging due to the affordable housing crisis.  What's next? The charity is calling for at least 15,000 dedicated social housing youth tenancies, and a focus on prevention measures.  https://lnkd.in/gspskSR6

This also includes National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (November 15-22), a chance to spotlight these critical issues impacting our communities. At BEDS Plus, we’ve seen firsthand how the housing crisis continues to grow, affecting more people in the places where we live and work. Over the past year, BEDS Plus has helped change the lives of more than 5,000 people, offering essential services, support, and paths to stability. As we shaped our new strategy, we commissioned Homeless Link to create a comprehensive report on youth homelessness in the UK. The findings confirm what we already knew: young people face unique challenges that require targeted support. 🚨 Key insights: ✅ Young people need tailored support – Our grants fund charities that provide specialist services for young people experiencing homelessness. ✅ Marginalised groups face increased risks – We ensure funding reaches charities supporting those most vulnerable. ✅ A clear framework exists – The Positive Pathway model outlines the steps needed to end youth homelessness. ✅ Data gaps remain – As the UK’s largest funder dedicated to ending youth homelessness, we’re working with partners to improve data collection and analysis. 📊 If you work in the property sector, your support is vital in helping us fund solutions that work.
