"Confidence is not 'Will they like me?' Confidence instead is, 'I'll be fine if they don't'. An insightful quote from American singer Christina Grimmie. A young lady who died far too young, but was wise beyond her years. There are not many industries where people are more critical of you than music. ↳ Comments about our voice. ↳ The songs you sing. ↳ How you look. ↳ What you say. ↳ What you wear. ↳ Who you spend time with. As a result, it is so easy to allow what others think about you to have an impact. To prevent you from doing what you want. What you love. Making it so hard to stay on your path. To be true to yourself. But yet this young professional saw through the negativity. She realized it didn't matter if she wasn't "liked". Or if people didn't like her songs, clothes, words, or actions. Because she found the truth. To have success you need to have the self-confidence to ignore the noise. To avoid the naysayers. She realized very early that: "Confidence is not 'Will they like me?' Confidence instead is, 'I'll be fine if they don't'." Worrying what others think is one of the two key barriers to success. Preventing you from taking action. 🧠 So if Christina Grimmie, at less than 22 years of age, saw and embraced this truth, how about you? ❓ In what area of your life or career are you allowing the fear of what others think to prevent you from taking action? ❓What are you going to do about it? 📌P.S. The other key barrier to your success that I hear most often is fear of failure. What is yours? #Leadership #Empowerment #ConfidenceCoach #CommunicationCoach #CareerCoach
The world's a tough crowd – even water gets criticized for being too wet. strut your stuff, critics be damned
I love that. It's not, "work hard to make yourself not care if they like you," but using an entirely different values system and measure for success.
What other people think about you is none of your business.
Oftentimes, we are so worried that others won't like us that we forget to ask if we even like ourselves. I never knew of Christina Grimmie until this post, Tony. Thanks for sharing parts of her story.
