Have you ever felt like you're working harder than your colleagues but still not receiving the same recognition? And if you take a moment to listen to your inner voice, what do you hear? A louder, more persistent voice telling you that you're not good enough? This voice is trying to protect you, but in reality, you're being held back unconsciously by your inner saboteurs. You can recognize these saboteurs by the negative emotions they trigger, such as frustration, anger, and self-doubt. Here are some examples of how saboteurs can affect your career: Pleaser: You constantly try to make everyone happy, even if it comes at the expense of your own goals. And the more you focus on pleasing others, the less you build meaningful relationships with your colleagues. Hyper-Achiever: You feel like you're only valuable if you continuously perform perfectly. But constantly striving for perfection drains your energy, making it harder to adapt to changes. Avoider: You avoid difficult conversations or situations, causing you to miss opportunities to be visible or to make important decisions. And the more you avoid, including the spotlight, the more recognition others get for the hard work you’ve done. The good news is, you can recognize your saboteurs and reduce their influence. Now I may not know how to successfully fry an egg 🍳(true story) but one thing I do know is this... The root cause of you not reaching your next level of impact & influence (and let’s not forget happiness) is almost always around the way you think about yourself, and not in your ability to do the job. Think about it. 💠 You know the right decision to make, but you question it because you doubt your decision making skills. 💠 You want to exercise or have more fun but you think work is more worthy of your time than you are. 💠 You want to open up and bring your team closer to you but you hold back for fear of looking weak. 💠 You see an agenda item for today's meeting that you feel passionate about yet you say nothing because you are worried what people will think. 💠 You feel guilty for not spending quality time on your relationships yet you still work every evening because that feeds your feeling of worth more. Logically you know what needs to be done and what you want, yet you hold back. Very often I find when working with my clients is that there are deep rooted subconscious beliefs that they have no idea lay dormant, sabotaging their thoughts and actions. Of course they get stuff done, otherwise they wouldn't be so ‘successful’. But they do it at a huge sacrifice. A double edged sacrifice in fact that means they have to constantly work through their anxiety, self shaming (harsh word but true) and self doubt to get the job done, and of course the business doesn't benefit from that untapped potential that is being pushed away. It's possible to have it all; the success without the sacrifice. Let’s normalise being senior in our work but having mindset shiz to deal with. I really encourage you to think about areas you self sabotage. Can you spot them? The first step is self awareness, you just need to know HOW you sabotage for now, not necessarily WHY (that subconscious can be tricky to locate). This myth is misleading because confidence does not eliminate fear or nervousness. Instead, it's about acknowledging these feelings and moving forward despite them. So, even if you feel afraid or nervous, it's okay! It's a normal reaction to stepping outside your comfort zone and pursuing what truly matters to you.   Myth #2: There is only one kind of confidence. This myth assumes that confidence looks the same for everyone, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Just as each person's journey is unique, so too is their expression of confidence. Whether you're naturally outgoing or more introverted, you can cultivate confidence in your own way. Understanding this allows you to embrace your individuality and stand tall in your authenticity.   Myth #3: I have to feel confident before I tackle the projects that are important to me. Contrary to popular belief, confidence doesn't always precede action. In fact, it's often the other way around. By taking action, even in the face of uncertainty, you build confidence over time. For a long time I spent most of my time working in the business instead of working on the business, it was necessary, or at least that’s what I thought. When Covid came things started to change and what seemed to be working I soon realized it wasn’t. I started to discover my lack of knowledge in so many areas, and one of the first things I learned was to develop my self awareness. If I don’t know that I don’t know something I just go through life ignorant of that such thing I don’t know, and I might think that what I know or what I do is normal. I discovered I had multiple limiting beliefs, things that were normal to me, so I never questioned them, I used to only accept them because “that was my normal”. I soon started to become aware of my poor leadership skills, my lack of skills selling, networking, communicating, my lack of efficiency, high stress, high ego, not knowing how to set boundaries with people, accepting toxicity around me, my low levels of emotional intelligence, among many other things in that long list of behaviors, skills, and traits that I needed to develop. The first step was accepting that the problem was me, and that nobody else was responsible to fix my problems but me. I learned that in life there’s Victims and there’s Victors. A Victim will always look for someone or something to blame for their lack of results. Whereas a Victor will always say, “I am the problem, and since I am the problem I can fix it”. Three years later I have changed my mindset, I see things through a different lens, I have developed many things in me, but I still have a long way to go. But it’s all about progress, not perfection. As long as I’m progressing I know I’m going in the right direction. #beintentional 💪
